evony advertisements
The Evony ad is just odd. It's about some mystical war game or something, right? Features a busty blonde animation?
There's nothing wrong with the ad, no need to be over conservative.
Edit:
OK, I just made a google check and discovered that with time, they have evolved from a slightly revealing woman drawing to just zoomed in boobs, I hadn't realized that, so I take that back. I don't think it would damage any children's mental health or something, but I do think it's ridiculous.
What do people think about these adverts? They seem to me to be not very appropriate on a site where children, and people of all types will be playing chess. Perhaps I'm being oversensitive, but I find them slightly offensive - is it just me?
I agree, and I do not believe I am being oversensitive nor overconservative. I am sure if evony wants to advertise on this site they have less potentially controversial ads they can put forth.
i don't like them, but it's impossible for us to preview every ad. that's why we have the REPORT AD link under every ad.
I know how to solve this problem - Erik, give everyone a free membership. This causes no ads whatsoever to be on Chess.com, freeing people from the biopolitical control of ads such as EVONY.
Yes, I am always confused when I see those advertisements: it is a flashy picture for a war game? lol?
It's a tactical game, a bit like Age of Empires, ever played it before? You can create buildings and soldiers to attack other places. I've never played it before, but I saw my brother playing it, so I learned it from there.
I always hate seeing those too.

you've never checked?
Personally, I think we need to be careful about being over sensitive. We don't want to create (another) nanny state!
Just pick up ANY of your standard issues coffee table magazines or newspapers and the pictures on the covers and in those are just as bad/good (which ever way you look at it, haha).
We don't keep those out of site of children do we?

Damn.. my fist post, and its a controversial one, and I'm not generally a controversial kind of guy :(

I think the unavailability of materials and the shoving of those "objectionable" materials in my face or children's faces or religious people's faces are two extremes. Maybe porn shouldn't be illegal but it definitely doesn't need to be streaming either... Depending on the magazine, yes...we do keep those out of sight. It would be nice if people could live the kind of lives they want to live...people who love to revel in obscenity should have a forum for them, also. A no-censor zone, perhaps?
lol why don't you just use adblock+ that comes with firefox? Its free and it gets rid of the ads without having to pay for a membership
i have reported several of their ad's before and i have once i have reported them i then see them not very long after
The ads arent porn.. they are ladies in bikini's. They are not obscene, they are just ladies in bikini's. Ok, so they dont have anything to do with the product they are advertising, but as we all know these kinds of images are used ALL THE TIME in advertising and the general commercial media, just to get your attention... and it is quite obvious it works!
If we are going down the route of mollycuddling users, then we are going to end up in a very difficult position... In my opinion, and looking at the current state of the worlds financial systems, the poker.com ads are far more dangerous ;)

Objectifying women's bodies to sell goods is not something I think is proper, let alone for a family site. Period. If you find it benign because "lots of ads do it"...well, that's you.
surely there must be better ad's than these. there are hundreds of company's who want to advertise and it must be better to have ad's that are related to chess and chess.com than things that aren't at all and i like the chess.com ad as well
I like what you say, AfafBouardi, very well put! Tomorrows Dream, I know the ad in question is just a picture of a woman, but it's the way it scans up and down her body, hovering in certain areas, that makes it annoying and inappropriate for this site. I know you see much worse on magazine racks, even on the front covers, but they're not somewhere you have to look - here you can't avoid it, they pop up in front of you at any time!
