Don't like the new version at all.  Much prefer the old one. Can't we bring it back?

White flag?  Omg.  King on side is the symbol of resignation.  Any CHESS player knows that.

I thought white flag meant 'surrender'...

In war.  In chess, the accepted and easily recognizable symbol is the king laying on it's side.  Using a flag...especially if it blends into the background makes it harder to see.  And to chess players, the word 'flag' has another meaning, "to lose on time".  In a chess context, using a flag is confusing, not what you want if you're designing a user interface.

Take a look at Arena or Babaschess.  They both use laying kings, if I'm not mistaken, to denote resignation.

Absolutely agree. If he chess.com team doesn't want v2 they can sell it to some IT company that will make it soar. They will have millions of customers right away.

No, don't do that! No greedy IT company with narcissistic traits. We have had enough of these big companies playing God with us. Try the same way as LINUX have done happy.png Free for all, and mostly for the common man.

Fwiw, I definitely enjoy the new Chess.com more.

There were some really annoying technical problems a few months back, but they didn't last long and I haven't encountered any in a good while.

There is a link in the menu to switch, at least until v2 is gone.

Brilliant idea!

We could choose between V3.com to be thoroughly modern, glitzy, loud, raucous and just use cave pictures  instead of language, or v2.com  and be old fashioned, sit in leather chairs, have a cup or glass, and think about how things were nice when we could all grow things in our back garden, the children could walk to school safely, play in the park, fish in the creek  and there were no traffic jams.

HOW does clicking classic get you back to the old site?

jarnodevries1

I cannot really see what pieces have been captured during the game.. (very small icons near the board)

Lol, it doesn't.  It's a lame theme in the new version.  If you want to get back to the old site click the link at the top of the page.

Dear Chess.com.

Do you plan to actually listen to what all these angry people are saying, or are we just given this forum to vent our spleen on before we learn to accept your greater wisdom about what we should put up with?

Martin_Stahl

erik, the site owner/CEO, has posted in this topic and has been involved in a number of these topics and the club dedicated to v3. A number of changes have been implemented due to member feedback.

They are listening (reading).

Yes, it is a bit of a comedy, I had about 3 laughts at commentaries like the Premium member warned not to use ad-blocker or a guy saying "First Trump, now this?" Smile

Thanks Martin, here's a tip, just leave a little backwater in the site that looks just like it used to and let people get into that if they want to (I do).

Thanks so much for Classic Theme in V3.

I think the team is meet my expectations!

I think the team really listens and takes what we think.

V2 isn't going away until people are happy with V3. Now, if you have absolutely made up your mind that you just reject V3 outright without trying it or giving it even the slightest chance, then hey, nothing I can do. However, I know there are 2 things that need to happen before we shut down V2:

First, performance needs to improve (for those with older machines or computers). I know that for a small % of members, V2 is faster. We will keep V2 until V3 is faster than V2.

Secondly, I know that some members are more attached to V2 homepage style (that's the page that gets the most complaints). I'm working on one further iteration that I believe should be even more acceptable.

Thanks for the feedback and I appreciate your patience through the process!

🐡  Oh, puffer fish..!

We've been mentioning this for months(!!) now, Martin.  Nothing's improved with:

  1. background / color schemes (they are hard on the 👀)
  2. performance (5-6x slower, especially for those NOT living in large metropolitan areas like the Bay Area with umpteen #s of ISPs to choose from)
  3. Icon-ification mystery.  Not everyone can decipher those icons.  At least with words, Google Translate gives everyone a chance to guess at the meaning.
  4. Scrolling in to the abyss.  Not many actually enjoy the scroll-down feature as everything is loaded in to a single page.  Pagination >> Scrolling.

... and more.  Just look at all the feedback.  From craftysusie, to chungle, to CaptainTod and others.  Its been said.  Its been noted.  Its been reported.  It has yet to take affect in the code, however.  I'm not sure why Erik thought yesterday was a good day to spring this upon the chess.com user base.   Maybe Cubs Win, Trump Wins, V3 should Win too?

Martin_Stahl

1, you can load your own background. If you are on Chrome you can download an extension to tweak more of the colors.

2, I'm in middle America, on mobile and wired, and don't notice significant speed problems. I haven't tested it empirically; it is a subjective feel.

3, some people like it, some don't.  Icons can be more universal, reducing the need for translations. Not saying the current icons are the most universal but I don't think they are hard to learn.

4, I agree. Scrolling is not as usefull for large amounts of content. I prefer pagination.
