Testing the home page load time over 10 iterations.

Average load time (V3) = 3.926 seconds

Average load time (V2) = 1.386 seconds

So clearly, V3 is at least 2 times slower than V2.

For load times and more statistics on the page performance - Page Load Time

       3 times slower ! Surprised

I wonder if any of these people complaining have bothered to play live chess using v3?

Live game play here is massively improved over v2. One of the proofs of this is that top GMs are beginning to play here, but they stayed away in droves with v2.

venue

Slowness is a big problem for players who love bullet.

SmyslovFan

Venue, I play bullet regularly. I stopped playing blitz or bullet here under v2 because there was no timestamp/timeseal and lag was a major problem. That has been addressed in v3. And guess what? The chess pros have noticed!

Bellerophontis

Then keep V3 for live chess only and keep V2 for on-line chess and everybody will be happy

Anyway I start to take back-up of all my forums, I will not leave anything to chess.com, I am fed up of this constant cruelty already, if they want V3 let them have itCool

It is not a case of "bothering"...some people don't have time for live chess, don't like live chess, prefer daily chess.

There is a serious issue here, a lot of members, including premium members are posting their dissatisfaction, which ultimately is bad news for the whole site.

I really can't understand why they changed such an intuitive look and feel of the website into something totally crappy. I feel it is a change done for the sake of changing.

web14

i play live chess here and i like the new version .wink.png .

Smyslov - one way to lose users is to continue to argue with them (and call them deplorables)---just as HRC.  Its a well-known path to losing participation.

Here is an example of what I (and many others) mean by perfromance issues with V3:

And, yes, I have seen others complaining about performance in V3 live as well.  I don't play much Live these days; not since they began tinkering with all the LIVE code about a year ago, taking away some of the more prominent features of V2-Live chess... in preparation for going live with V3.  I've not been terribly impressed with V3's Live chess; not enough to make me really want to start playing again.

Granted, LOAD TIME performance is different than lag during Live play.  I cannot and have not attempted to measure lag time differences in V2/V3 Live play.   I do know that LOAD TIMEs in V3 are much longer, noticeably longer.  Even to the point I get lagged echo's of keystrokes in V3 (that I just don't have in V2... ever!).

What strikes me is Erik & staff are and were well aware of all the short-comings of V3 as we posted them, diligently, to the V3 group long before this switch-over.  They decided to switch over anyway.  That tells me something---either they did not believe all our moaning and griping about V3 not being the End-All to chess on the internet OR they decided to forego our time & effort investment in to giving them honest, quality feedback.  Either way, that tells you about the lack of respect the staff seem to have for feedback from paying customers.  At this point, I'm of the mind to take my business elsewhere.  This is Erik's site and he can rule as he pleases over his domain.  My choice is to participate or go elsewhere.

If I were Erik, I would throttle back revision attempts until all the major points of malcontent are addressed thoroughly.  A lot of Damage Control is necessary at this point.

corvidmaster

Every time I log onto V3, I have to enter my user name and password. I use the "Remember me" box, but it never works. Please fix this.

I have an old laptop, seems like I will need to upgrade my computer to play on the new site.  Does anyone with a new computer have a problem?  I like the features and the interface looks good.

I probably split time 50:50 between computer and phone (the app works great!)

I was in the computer game before the Internet. Before even termnals. I am very ancient.

Changes always caused chaos. I suspect that with the technology being so much better these days that, paradoxically, the problems of change are worse.

Systems come into being based on a fixed goal. There is a certain inflexibility built in, because of the original design,

Imagine a T Ford having to incorporate a lot of electronic gear to "improve" it.

The basic design would not allow it.

The whole design of a new system based on new technology needs to be rethought as a new integral system. Patches, as soon as they are introduced to the old, cause problems. And then the patches are patched, and you get something which has grown like Topsy, and is lop-sided and new features become imcompatible.

Damage control is necessary in the V2/V3 change, but almost impossible probably to implement.

Compromises to accommodate change have probably been made to the hybrid V2/V3 which will be very hard to unwind and unpick.

O, brave, new, you beaut rechnology!

The trouble with it is that is not organic. New features kill the old, they do not grow from the old, but destroy them.

A bit like the problem the architects and builders of the Tower of Babel had. And they could not talk the same language to each other.

HIstory is not bunkum. It has a habit of demonstrating the repetition of ancient mistakes.

reading the forums in the new version reminds me of gameboy tetris

gambit-man

I was having speed issues too, it was taking way too much longer than it should on this hardware, i have seen significant speed increase in recents days.

Now just the appearance to resolve...

Some database software trees have problems with transpositions, not just here. I believe erik made a recent post about trying to improve Explorer in that regard. The same result probably exists in v2.

Now, that was broken, why did you not fix it?

UnbridledOne

That's great to know. I have been using V3 for 3 days now and have gotten quite comfortable with the changes. I just hate the heads being cut off in my blogs  lol
