Forum Suggestion

There is a regularly occuring problem on the chess.com forums: Spammers. Most of them involve people spamming adult phone numbers, creating dozens of threads with the same topic line (as is happening right now in the General Forum), and then there are others going into threads like the Daily Puzzle forum and posting porn pictures, like what happened a week ago. I realize we can't have moderators watching every forum and every thread 24/7, but I propose this, if it is even possible: Make it so that a new member cannot post on anything but the "Help & Support" forum for a week after joining the site. This way you don't have some immature dolt creating a new account just to spam or post porn, and when their account is deleted and their threads are erased, probably just goes and creates another account to do it all over again. I also propose that, again, if it is possible, you start banning IP addresses that belong to the posters of that adult content or spam, from the phone number spammers to the pornographic image posters. This is a family website, and I find such postings extremely inappropriate when there are children seeing such filth. Can something be done?

I agree with the idea of making people wait a week before they can spam all the forums.  I think it would be a good idea to force them to spam only in the Help and Support forums.

I know the idea of IP banning has been rejected previously because it is easy to change ip addresses.

It sounds like an excellent idea, though I have never encountered any problems as such myself.

Probably because this is a three month old thread.  They've gotten better already; I haven't seen a single Indian mind control get your ex back whatever thread in the General Forums in quite awhile, which is what the OP was referring to(rather, one of them).
