here how i let it work

1) go to create a game/TM page, then from 'Standard Starting Position' choose 'Search all openings'

2) type 'scotch gambit' in the box said 'Enter ECO code or name'

3) it will automatically find related openings, choose the one you want.

and this is the TM page i created by above steps

nikre

seems still there is some problems, at least the pre-view of the board on the 'create TM' page didnt work to me, i cant see the board seting before i confirm the match. but the the game/match comes with correct setting.

i0NE

You can nikre, just random choose a opening first then start the procedures as you said and will shows up the opening you want :)

nikre

yep, you are right rio, now it works. thanks again.

why Chess.com make it simpler and easy to use?

No, not all back to normal yet, the tournament options  'Enter ECO code or name' doesnt working properly at all, couldnt search any opening from there, it wasnt like that 2 weeks ago?Undecided

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I tried to create a tournament with both B01 Scandivavian (of whice I am an administrator) and C44 Ponziani.  When I put those in the search box it took me to the tournament page to join a tournament.  I suspect there are a lot of eco codes that won't work.

i0NE

No, you havent done anything wrong this is just happened to me as well, the ECO code seems stop working only on creating tournament, but work pretty good create TM or games challenge, i am sure two weeks ago wasnt like that cos mine tournament opening were searching from there.

nikre

seems i celebrated too early, opening search option doesnt work for new tournament making, but I hope and beleive Chess.com will fix this minor issue very soon.

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

their concern for quite awhile has been to increase world sales by making their language coding work better.  I got my online encouragement yesterday to get me to encourage my countrymen to join Chess.com.  We're small potatoes.   This is my last post in this thread, as I've completely lost faith in them.    me and my diamond membership are outta here.

I'm sure there are other sites who want premium players who like to play theme based tournaments.

THANKS AGAIN TO CHESS.COM !!!

i0NE

Does that mean you can choose any starting position at all? Or are you restricted to a fixed list?

you can choose from the positions already listed, or search it by typing the names if they are not on the list, like i did for SG opening.

NimzoRoy

The fix is pretty good but not for looking anything up by name. If you know the ECO code they seem to have a pretty big choice of openings and variations available. http://www.365chess.com/eco.php

I still think it would be good (even best) if we could create (or find) a start position by entering the moves. For example; there are many Reti positions which transpose to English and/or Zukertort and/or KIA and/or others and the search for those can be time consuming and unproductive. The naming of openings in the list is not always accurate, nor do all online databases always agree on the names of openings. Some openings have multiple names and even nicknames.

When searching for a start position there should be a small "hover popup" diagram to facilitate the search. It's the position that counts, not the name or even the ECO.

The problem of people creating ridiculous start positions is self correcting since opponents would not accept those challenges unless they wanted to. If you follow "Opening of the Day" you can see there are countless ridiculous start positions which already have ECO numbers. So what's the difference?

By entering the moves you would have what you wanted instead of sometimes having to settle for what is available or what you can find.

I'm 100% with wormrose.

That would also facilitate endgame tournaments.

endgame tournament? that would be interesting, please let me know if you organize any Laughing

binblaster

Endgame tournaments would be great. Please add them chess.com staff :)

Steve922477

It would be too much to ask for Chess.Com to add  official endgame tournaments but if they would simply allow any start position, we could fairly easily organise them ourselves.
