Introduction forum

(Delete this if it has already been suggested, I tried searching for it and couldn't find it so, here i am.)

My suggestion is simple, the creation of a forum category based solely to the purpose of people posting introductions introducing themselves to anyone who would care to read it. Now, besides taking up space, this does serve a couple useful purposes.

1) This makes that ever dubious first post nervousness that most users to any new site experience, vanish. Once the first post is out of the way, they get a lot more comfortable and begin to post more often.

2) Friendships can be made then and there. I like Foo Fighters. I would put that in my Introduction. Now FooFighterFan is bored and sees my introduction. We chat, have a cuppa tea, and discuss David Grohl. The only other way to really get to know people on here is to play a game with them or chat to them on the forums, and even then its hard to find out what they like besides chess.

3) Uncloggs the occasional introduction topic in the 'Chess.com Community' category. More like a bonus really...

So, it seems that the worst this could do would create a nonused category in the forums. The best includes more activity, more enjoyment, and a better chance of subscribed members.

Thank you for reading!

Well yes, I have taken the plunge and made my first post already and have even invited a bunch of strangers to be my friend.

I wouldn't mind chatting about Japan and anything related, or India, I would like to hear from people from very different cultures to myself (UK) as I would probably never get the chance to visit these countries (keeps fingers crossed for Lottery win).

Of course my game is pretty bad being self taught and not bothering to read up on strategies, I wing it and then lose, usually as a consequence of not concentrating, stupidity, or the odd glass of wine.

Feel free to flirt.
