new chess variant?

Maybe like normal chess, but when you take something you get the number of points it's worth, and you can redeem it at any time (it costs 1 move) and you get to place down the pieces you get. But it's randomized, so if you take a knight and redeem you could get like a Bishop a knight or maybe 3 pawns, and if you take a queen you could get a queen or a rook a minor and a pawn or just 8 pawns or 9 however much it is worth i forget yes thanks for reading

I like the idea of freely exchanging pieces of supposedly equal value.

Assuming that you have captured pieces worth 8 points, is it allowed to drop (to use the official shogi term) all of them at once and immediately mate the king?

A normal chess set has only 8 white and 8 pawns. Are you limited by the available pieces or do assume to always have enough pieces in your set?

So when i thought this up I was thinking about Crazyhouse, and how you can have like 2 queens and stuff. So yeah to the last question, you always have enough pieces. No, you can only drop one piece down a turn. So it would be like Crazy/Bughouse in that sense of placing pieces down. I may not have said it clearly, but the pieces you get are randomized. So if you capture 2 minors, you have 6 points. At any point in the game, you can use 1 turn to turn your points into a random piece selection of a value (using the normal scale where pawn = 1 knight/bish = 3 etc.) equivalent to the amount of points you have at the time of the exchange.

These ideas for a chess-variant are good but I don't like the idea of adding anything random to chess. One of the beauties in chess is that every rule is defined, and both players have the same information of the board, and what can be played. Nothing is left to chance. If you win or lose it is due to your skill only, and not something random (like cards or dice).

Of course, some variants might add randomness.  I will play those games after "chess is solved" and there is nothing else left to play.wink.png

Its a good idea but its quite confusing

I don't know what fairy pieces are, I will google that right now. I was thinking more of being able to play this on chess.com? Please let me know if I am misunderstanding something as I believe that I am. And yes, that is a good point about randomization, but I do not have a solution to that yet... I will think about it. Perhaps would a better idea just be there's like a "shop" where you can exchange your points at for whatever pieces you want? This would lead to some tactics being necessary, as your opponent can see both what you have available to place and how many points you have but you will be able to think ahead more and wait a second, maybe that plus you can use your points no matter what? And it doesn't cost a turn?

So I have looked at fairy pieces, and I think that might be a better idea, as being able to win just from taking a couple pawns can be "overpowered" and will lead to very short games that will be based on who can capture a pawn first.
