New graphing feature for ratings

I was just surprised to see new graphs for ratings data - nice color, good feature of giving one values for each day, however; the range is from 0-2000.  On a weekly or even monthly basis players generally don't fluctuate more that 200 or so points, so most individuals graphs will be fairly flat - while this makes my dramatic crashes seem very small, my minor gains are fully masked.  Please return us a y axis that gives some resolution.

thanks for listening Erik Wink

I, too, had a similar reaction.  Perhaps the best solution would be to allow the user to imput the magnitude of the y-axis.

But, yeah, currently the scale is so large that the graphs are basically meaningless.

The max and min for the Y-axis has been fixed and will be released soon.  Thanks..!

If it's helpful, I agree with the comments here.  I would prefer to have the old graph back.

Unfortuantely we can no longer cut and paste the graphs into posts (blogs, articles etc.) -- it would be nice if that were restored.

It would also be cool if while mousing-over the graph and seeing the pop-over showing the rating, clicking brought you directly to the game that resulted in the rating being shown.

Also, in the histogram shown here:

http://www.chess.com/echess/players.html

The mouse-over functionality jumps every 100 rating points -- I can understand why, but if it's going to do this, it seems to make more sense to me not to show the count of people who have a rating of 1400, but rather the count of people rated 1301-1400 inclusive.

The more I look at the graph, I think it must be doing what I suggested, but that the Y-Axis is out to lunch (showing the totals for each 100 rating point band, rather than the totals for each rating) as the area under the curve (i.e. the total number of players) is far in excess of 3,000,000.

I think it could just be a simple case of fixing the Y-axis label, and the label on the pop-up to clarify that the total is for the 100 point band as opposed the specific rating point as it currently appears to imply.

Also, the one user at 3100 (presumably 3000-3100) would seem to indicate that it's not excluding users who've had their accounts closed.  We did have a player briefly break 3000 once, but he was quickly banned for cheating.

As a non-paying member I understand that I don't deserve any say in how this awesome service is set up - but I see no benefit to the new graph whatsoever.

Please allow an option to view the old style of graph or fix the y-axis.  Thanks!

I'd really like to see the irrelevant bit of the graph (anything below 1000) removed, as it makes any ratings changes unnoticable :>

InertTachyon

For some the region below 1000 is relevant - but all we need to do is go back to a y axis that adjusts to where we are, like we had before - Jon (#6 above) says this is ready, hopefully they will find some time to install the fix soon.

I miss my mountain peaks and deep crevices  :)

me too... I have stopped gazing in wonder at my statistics, because there is nothing to see.  narcissism denied...  I may have to graph my own data....

jon

Yes, the Y axis issue will be solved in our next update.  This should happen farely soon.

This fix will give the apperance that your stats will be "zoomed" into a specific region.  So if you never go below 1,000, the min on the Y Axis will scale properly instead of defaulting to 0 every time.

Yep. The graph looks flat, as if I'm doing nothing at chess.com.

A flatlined electrocardiogram is a scary thing.

thanks Jon!
