@socialista:

Yes I think it´s strange, but redirections and noisy ads only happen  when I´m playing at chess.com. It´s only on the game site, not on other sites of chess.com.

It started with ads on the game site, annoying but understandable, a little motivation to become a premium member.

Then came commercial sounds during a game. From nowhere suddenly loud and noisy sounds, some wargame commercial, unbearable, impossible to ignore and to stop.

The newest hit is redirections during a game. Suddenly I am on another website, wanting me to update java or offering some dubious plug-ins for mediaplayer. This happened several times in the last weeks. It´s only on chess.com, other websites work fine, no virus or something else on my computer.

Now, chess.com, where do you go...? If this is the direction your owners want you to go, it´s the downwards direction. Keep serious, please!

I was recently redirected to a site after accidently clicking on an ad stating that firefox was outdated, and needed to be updated. More than likely it was a malware.

Let me try to honestly help you and if I'm an ass-hole, so be it; By your own admissions in quotes 1,23, and 27, you have several malware programs, bytes, gmer, and Avast. 1st mistake--use one; they fight each other. You've only installed spotify, skype, ninite.com, java updates, adobe (in the last 3 months) 2nd mistake--viruses can be yrs old. And you only go to tumbir, chesscube, stackoverflow, hotmail/gmail, and various websites for programming math, but when you surf the web-- your careful!  I think we've narowed down the virus's location to the w.w.w.  Do you use an exterior fire wall??

Your computer is just too cloged to run properly. On top of all of this, you said you would try Ad-Blocker. I agree with a previous post. Don't you think its rather odd, that YOU get all these ads, and other people on chess.com are NOT getting them?

They've got some wiggle room I think.  Here's some things they could try to make money off the non-premium members:

  • Put advertisements on the pieces.  The 'a' pawn could be renamed the AIG pawn, the 'b' pawn could be the BHP pawn, etc.
  • The king could be replaced by the Burger King guy.
  • Instead of your screen going white with "CONNECTION INTERRUPTED", they could perhaps put ads there saying "This disconnection brought to you by ..."
  • There was a guy on the TV show "Shark Tank" who was offering a surgically implantable bluetooth phone device.  He was laughed off the show, but perhaps this technology could be used to beam advertisements STRAIGHT TO YOUR BRAIN.  This, I think, is the future of internet chess.

All I'm saying is that's why they call it the wild, wild, west!  What's a FULLY TRUSTED website?  What's a GENUINE microsoft website. You can get infected by an E-mail from your sister. You have trojans, root kits, malware, spam, spyware and anything else that sophisticated scammers can think of. Welcome to your 1st lesson in chess--Beware of Greeks bearing gifts!

Thx for all your comments!

My computer will be checked now by an expert to exclude an infection on my side.

And of course I do not run all my antivirus programs at the same time. Avast is my standard antivirus-program and always running in the background. Malwarebytes and gmer are scanners that look for different targets and run occassionally.

I use 365Chess for openings,  chesstempo for tactics, and chess.com for eveything else.

My computer was checked. It is clean. But still redirections happen. And more and more unserious pop-ups arise, like flashplayer-update, java-update and so on. Pop-ups from ADNXS.com, which is an unserious website, known for malware and virusses. All these things only happen when I am on the chess.com website.

So once more my question: chess.com, where do you go?

Try the QT-Web browser and see if the redirections continue happening.
