Thanks Anelya and all who supported the idea.

How much more support do we need to make this happen I wonder and also the other suggestion to show who sent the team match challenge?

Dunno about that, but if it happens, since you appear to be the resident lobbyist, maybe you van turn your attention to implementing a better way to determine team rankings in team matches/vote chess too?Cool

This would be a good first/early step.  I can think of a few additional things that would make running team tournaments even easier.

  • Have a special kind of team match which relates to 3 groups instead of just 2.  Groups 1 and 2 are the usual roles of the teams which are playing each other.  Group 3 is the league under which the match is being played.  This would give several advantages to organized competitions.
  1. The admins of group 3 could be admins for the matches, perhaps with the ability to override lock/unlock and remove players who have been banned from the competition but not from chess.com
  2. The matches belonging to the league could be listed in one place, on the organizing group's team matches page.  Make the organizing group competition only so it doesn't get confusing.
  3. Babs's proposed auto lock function could apply automatically to matches in group 3 according to the competition's rules
  4. Matches could end on a specific date, with the final score for purpose of the competition being the match score at that point in time
  5. The process of controlling the match tournament could be embedded in chess.com instead of handled independently by the competition's admins.  Therefore anyone could run a competition, vs. having to have some knowledge of how tournaments work.
  • Another good idea would be to track the history of removed players including when the player was removed, by whom, and with a fill in the blank answer for justification.  This idea could be carried forward independently of either the automatic lock or competition match ideas.

As a software developer I can say that it is not easy to insert features like this into a mature site.  We should give the staff a lot of credit for the stuff they have added so far, and be patient.  But it would be nice if staff would either accept an idea into a requirements list or politely reject it.  Then we'd know whether to invest effort in buffing up the competition rules.  Smile

I feel your pain, Babsy. I've made a few suggestions for simple improvements before. Not once did I receive even a reply to acknowledge that anything was even received! Oh well... I guess I'm happy enough to have chess.com on my Android phone. *makes another account payment*

I too posted these suggestions before.
