play in lectures as black

hello!

I wonder if it is possible to learn the lectures, for example the openings, also as black. I mean, 50% of the time we play on the dark side of life 😋 and so it would be necessary to learn also from this side. for example when I study the sicilian defence it is black who decides to go this way. but Im a newbie here and maybe there is already this possability.

give me advice and help

thank you

Learn tactics first. Learn basic opening theory, but you don't need to study the Sicilian if you hang a rook later on in the game..

archaja

Ok. But that was not the main question.

TameLava

I know, but I don't really know, and that is the best answer I could give... It is better to learn tactics...

I don't really understand the question. If you study an opening you start to understand the positions and the opportunities for both sides. This helps you whether you are white or black.

Its a big difference between learning from the white side or from the black side. And it seems to me that a lot of the teachings are just looking from the white side. Shure, always both sides are acting, but the main point of view is the white side, but in real gameplay, its only 50%. I was wondering, if there is a possibility to decide from which side I can have a look on the board for learning the openings. But now I know, that I have to take what is offered.

And besides: Learing an opening must not mean not to learn tactics, ok?

TameLava

Sorry if I was pushing tactics into your face...

May you grow your chess abilities and have a great 2018!

archaja

Same to you!

I totally disagree. I mean, there are books that focus on white. But there are as many books that focus on black. Take, for example, McDonald's Play the Dutch: An Opening Repertoire for Black Based on the Leningrad Variation.

null

Or the following book which looks as how black can play open games often starting with e4 e5.

null

And, of course, a zillion books about how black should approach the French of the Sicillian.

archaja

I dint talk about books. I talked about chess.com.

corum

I don't see any resources on chess.com that only (or mainly) look at things from the white perspective. Can you give an example?

maybe there is no preferings for white. but it could be helpful to decide from which colour you look at an opening. so, even when the explqnation and the drawings are for white, if you could turn the board and have a look from the other side.
