Pre-Moves should take 1/100th of a second.

What dat

Dat is short for that

I don't understand why someone should expect to win the game if they reach a theoretically winning position but only have one second left. The time control is known and agreed to in advance. If you want to win, make sure you have enough time left on the clock to deliver mate.

1/10 of a second per move is plenty of time, even in bullet.

0.01 sounds right, in otb I've seen people make there moves in 0 secs cause they make there move at the same time as there opponent. that's the main reason why Magnus and penguin play on l*ch***.org sad.png

at least you can make more than one pre move here, unlike the other ones which is pretty good

But Pre-moves aren't designed to take any time, yet you still lose .1 seconds. This means if I have a mate in 15 and SEE IT, but we both only have 1 sec left, I'd still lose. If they are going to have pre-moves, they have to be instantaneous otherwise it defeats the purpose.

agreed. would've saved Eric Hansen and Aman Hambleton 100s of dollars on all the chairs and closets they broke from rage. sad.png

Chess.com used to have it where there were infinite premove and no time penalty. It created 1-minute games that lasted for 10 minutes and had 100s of moves. That is an absolute failure. Chess.com did the right thing in changing how premoves work, except they should only allow one premove per move.

@smyslovfan if live chess had only one premove per move and cost 0.1 seconds, that would be the most boring site I've ever seen...

That's why I said .01, so the max it could be is like 50-100 moves.

then you might be surprised to see this game: https://www.chess.com/live/game/2620387757 it was unrated and we were just testing to see how many moves could a 1|0 game get lol happy.png

Avatar of aa175

in otb  it can last much longer (0 seconds because you make move at same time as your opponent)

Avatar of aa175

lol

Avatar of aa175

I'm just saying premoves should cost less, penguin and magnus don't play here that much

and the pieces get "stuck in mud" frustrated.png

but there IS a good chance you're going to stalemate black

Avatar of aa175

technically black can still win by promoting... hard to not win this game if it wasn't for flagging meh.png

I once made a move in 0.0 seconds.  I tried to premove, but wasn't fast enough.  However, I ended up moving less than 1/10th of a second after my opponent.  So I actually made a move without any time being taken off my clock.

I've seen a few examples of other people doing it too.

But I couldn't do it on purpose. grin.png

It was a while ago.  I think it was a crazyhouse game.

Back in the 1990s, I watched Jesse Kraai play 5-1 time odds against all comers. He used one of those big plastic analog clocks. If you hit the clock hard enough, it actually GAINS time with each move!
