Problems with chat disabled

Hello,

I have two things to post here. One is a bug and one is a suggestion that could make things more logical.

1. (bug report) - I'm being unable to enable chat once I disabled it. I tried several times, but with no success. I get a report that my changes are submitted, but things stay the same. Please investigate.

2. (suggestion - related to bug mentioned in #1) - Once chat is disabled, you set auto-clearing of chat board. While this makes sense, one thing doesn't: you also remove the first line that's automatically added, and it says something like "Playcat vs OTHERPLAYER". Why is this important? Well, if person isn't starting the game, but just waiting and doing nothing, I used to block him/her out, thus avoiding some players that like to molest other people - I've been starting and aborting some games several times in a row (some people are obviously very bored). Now, with chat disabled (which is also a good thing, since people are rude sometimes), I don't see their nick any more and I can't block them easily.

Thanks

This is not a bug. It's the way it was designed to work.

The thinking behind clearing chat is that it probably contains something abusive that you would not want to be reminded of.

If you're referring to turn-based chess chat: there is no special 1st line. It's completely blank if no-one typed anything.
If you're referring to Live Chess chat: the entire chat disappears at the end of the game anyway, so how would leaving the 1st line help you?

I think we had a couple of misunderstandings. First one is obviously my fault. I'm not trying to enable it during a game. When game is finished, I went to settings and tried to enable it. With no success. That's why it is a bug. I'm being informed that my settings are saved, but it's not true.

I'm referring to Live Chess. Another confusion here, although I thought I was clear enough. This is the situation:

1. I disable chat (done automatically)

2. My opponent isn't playing. He's doing nothing. It's the first move, so he's not loosing time.

3. I abort the game and start a new one.

4. My opponent is a person from #2.

5. I want to block him, so he can't return to my games.

6. Since chat is cleared, I can't see his nickname, and can't block the user.

My point: when chat isn't enabled, first line is the line saying something like "playcat vs mr.boring", and I can click on mr.boring and select "block user". With chat turned off, I can't do that.

Solution: don't erase that first, "info", line.

I have the unfortunate problem of having disabled chat, not knowing how long the game is and whether it is an increment game.

Seriosly?

My point here is that moderators on this forum could do their job better. It's always some wise guy not reading / understanding stuff and just being "funny".

What I described here actually IS a bug, and what I think this site needs is a good relationship and care about it's users. Whenever I object about something, there is always this kind of treatment by some user, and mods do nothing.

The "bug" is the way it was designed to be, but would be better if it was possible to enable chat after disabling.

However, if you refresh the page whilst playing you can see the first line again. I sometimes do this in order to see the length of the game.

No, after the game is over. And I'm NOT playing the game. If I go to settings and enable the chat, and start a new game - still the same.

I can't enable it any more.

Yapp... I just tried again.

When I open settings, it says that chat is disabled. I uncheck the field and click save. Then go to a new game, and nothing - it's still disabled.

Perhaps you should follow the proper channels if this behaviour causes you discomfort.  "Help & Support" is at the bottom of every page.

Thank you, the problem is now solved. It sounded as a bug, but I also wanted to provide feedback / suggestion. That's why I wasn't sure where to post.

I think that is a bug.

Well, you pointed out my mistake in explaining things - I wasn't precise enough. So you weren't in a way. Thx for joining in.
