Proposal for a "Gentlemen" setting

Definitely the latter.  It's a 13 year old teenage kind of thing that I assume people grow out of. Maybe not though judging by people I have played.  Funny how many people on my blocked list have had their accounts closed when I reviewed it just now!  They were almost all people who got irate at me not rematching.

Sorry euplere but I don't see any problem with people not saying "hi" or "bye" in games you play online. I also do not see any ethical or moral problem with people who may leave after one match and not agree to a rematch. Whether I win or lose, I don't always have the time to play the player I've just played with one more time. More importantly rematches aren't a part what you sign up for when you join a game. It is entirely voluntary for a number of reasons. Besides the two I mentioned above, it is also possible that the player who has lost and wants a rematch is upset and grieving, so he is more likely to go ahead and cheat using computer. So, no, I don't think there should be any "gentlemen" setting. Maybe it should simply be a setting where players sign up in advance for however many matches they want (I hope no more than 7 or 9) and so these series of games will be a sort of "rematch"

It's Chess.com's fault.  Often I have spoken with the customer service head bobbers about revamping and allowing more socialization here at the site.  They've placated me and as a result I'm no longer a Diamond paying member as I was for years.  One thing they could do is discontinue the splash screen at end of game.  In doing so it takes your cursor out of the chat box while trying to say "gg" or whatever...... No one wants to go through the mouse girations to get the cursor back in chat to say anything, so they just decide f-it and move on.  Another chink in what used to be personal interaction thanks to the digital world and chess.com's stubborness to even attempt to address.  Then I can only block 200 people, with all the rif raf on the site here, it should be an allowance of 2000.  It gets aggravating, but I try not to get too angry. It's just not fun dealing with all the chessholes, if I can coin a term here...  Good day chaps.

I LOL'd.

Try posting the url, minus the www. or something, I can't see this. :)

Totally agree Scooby. And often times, your opponent will resign and not give you the opportunity to say a few words.

As far as rematches go, I don't think it's at all unsportsmanlike to decline a rematch win or lose. I personally dislike playing the same players twice, unless they're my friends or acquaintances. Maybe if they're cool, I'll give them a rematch. If it's one to one, okay dokey we gotta play a third. Heh. But no more!

People who post on forums wanting people to play rematches are usually the ones who get butthurt for losing and they think "I'm better than him, just let me prove it with best of 3". It's just an online chess game not a championship match.

Get over the loss and go to the next game if opponent doesnt want or have time for rematch and don't try to invent new rules for chess.com that effects everyone elses play.

If you want to play best of 3 or whatever do it with friends. Some of us don't want or have time to give a random butthurt stranger multiple chances to prove how "lucky" we got the first game.

superdrewe53

I have lost count of how many times I have sent messages and trophy's offering congratulations and commiserations, only to be ignored either through ignorance or because my opponents don't understand English, so now if my opponent messages me first I will engage in dialogue otherwise I don't bother

Why not make an option for those who pick their noses and those who don't? Too many options make for too few players in each group.

Sometimes you only have time for one game.

I think the idea of being able to ask for best of three sounds like a good idea

glamdring27

I think it is a good idea and is done upfront and not under an erroneous name like "gentleman setting" because it means no-one can ever have a valid excuse again for whining about the lack of a rematch.  Not that they have one now, but some think they do.

CAMACHO2016

there should be a setting to never play the same person twice
