The British determined that the Royal Proclamation, 1763 was inapplicable to the circumstances of the colony, and in particular, to its Catholic (quebec) population. Further, it became clear the anticipated large influx of British settlers was unlikely to occur, and that Quebec’s population would, for the foreseeable future, remain both French and Roman Catholic. The Quebec Act was passed in an effort to curb French discontent toward the British and ensure citizen loyalty, or at least neutrality, in the event of hostility between England and the Thirteen Colonies.

Constitution Act, 1982
quebec had two main reasons for not signing the agreement which brought the Canadian constitution: A constitution is the system of fundamental principles according to which a nation, state or group is governed.constitution home. With the new amending formula Quebec lost its veto: the right or power to forbid or reject; to refuse to consent to.veto over future constitutional change. Until then, Quebec or Ontario or a majority of Western or Maritime provinces could prevent any constitutional changes they didn't agree with.

Another reason Quebec wouldn't sign was a clause in the Charter of Rights which guaranteed minority language rights "where numbers warrant." This would have meant the end of Quebec's Bill 101 by protecting English language rights in Quebec (while at the same time protecting French language rights in the rest of Canada).

Just to be clear. Quebec never sign to be a parts of Canada. They forced us

And as a Québécois I agree 100%  for not signing in, it is like your sign your death agreement and forever remain closed lips with no power at all in the future. Not only Québec and other provinces would have signed off their veto right to any new proposal  but they also had no rights in the future for any recourse.

Pleez say US History. Canadiennes are American too.

Well thank you,I should have been more specific perhaps but it is obvious to most people that the last 3 exchanges are between me and ClavierCavalier who is from the USA.

Pleeze sounds like  you are begging.

And ther is no other country in America not even Brasil with a large population of 200 million people have any near the USA power and control not that I am against it just a fact

There are (2) officially recognized America's. North-Central and South....if you break them up by continent. I'm from N-C (which they say includes Greenland). St. Croix's been territorialized by the United States in one of these (2) America's.

And you're right, the United States wields alotta control over the America's. But, all are considered loosely unioned, no ? (23) countries in N-C and (12) countries in South America ?

And I'm not begging....try wearing my flipflops. FF's that feel like they're not in a country.

And BTW, go try telling a local islander from Hawaii you're from the United States. You'll get a corrective tongue lashing....and right now.

I agree. Quebec players should have their flag like other regions of the world such as Scotland, Catalonia, many British and US dependencies, Hong Kong and Macau, etc. The Chess.com flag criteria is not based on being recognized by the United Nations as a sovereign country. So there shouldn't be a different rule for Quebec people asking for their flag to become available on Chess.com.

As mater of fact, the Canadian Parliament recognized on 22nd November 2006 that people living in Quebec form a nation.
