Quick pair, tournaments, and other things

Hi,

I have been playing in live chess and I love to play on this site. People here tend to be good sports, but there are a few bad sports. I have played people who have decided to wait out their clock when they are in a clearly lost position. My brother had to wait two full hours because he was playing a long game and his opponent wouldn't resign in a mate in one situation. For this reason, I reccomend that the site adds a judgebot. The way I think it should work is if your opponent has not made a move in 10% of the time control in a clearly lost position, then the judgebot adjourns the game. For me, a clearly lost position would be a mate in 3 or less or a huge material deficit etc.

Next, I wanted to know if somehow you could add a feature with auto pairings. I would just put these at the top of live chess where someone could clearly see them and click on them. These would get rid of the "bunny-hunters" who only pick on people who are much lower rated because the auto pairings would put them with someone around the same level as them. (reccomended at 100 points + or - the challengers rating) This would give everyone a more accurate rating and would make the site a better place in my opinion. This doesn't mean get rid of the challenge feature because that is good as well.

Also, maybe you could add some live chess tournaments. I know people have nagged about this, but I think it is a great idea. I personally play in real life tournaments, and some of them are hard to get too, which is why people don't commonly play in them. Maybe you could have some where there are prizes like 1 month free diamond membership etc.

Lastly, I wanted to know if you could add a setting where you would not have to see your opponents rating. When I see my opponents rating it usually either psych's me out or gives me over-confidence. When I don't see my opponent's rating, I always play my best game, and I think everyone deserves your best game.

I hope these are reasonable suggestions,

If the suggestions were for things people generally wanted they would probably have whole threads devoted to them and possibly even have been implemented already.  The site runs smoothly as it is, people have fun, play chess and chat/abuse as their will chooses.  Threaten Erik that you may make your own site and you might get your own way, though...

Here_Is_Plenty, I am friends with Erik... my name is Eric lol. I don't threaten people though... you would get kicked off. Good try though..

Evaluating every game in progress would be a ridiculously expensive task for the computers to do, and 10% isn't very much. If you sit down to play a five minute per player game, that means you are committed to playing for ten minutes. If you can't wait, play faster games.

I'm not sure, but I think Erik may have said something about having players evaluatesportsmanship somehow. However, there is no confirmation that this is actually going to happen.

When you make a challenge, you can set the ratings you want to play against. Also, restricting people from playing seems pretty uncool.

And it seems kinda unfair to people who don't have accurate ratings, either because they're new or haven't played in a while or whatever.

Chess.com staff is already working to make live chess tourneys.Smile

  • Get over your psychological problem.
  • Don't look.
  • Put tape on the monitor.
