Reduce forum spam and "how to report a player" forum topics

Nearly everyday there is another bewildered member on here wanting to report a player. It is impossible to find out how to do this without the help of the community. Surely by now you could implement a report button either on the game itself or on a player's profile page? It could simply be a link to the "ticket submit" thingy that is hidden away.

As well as this, there are new spam threads starting by a new "member" of this site. I'd report them happily, but I can't really be bothered trying to remember the maze to the report section. I'm sure you'll find them

Here's the link to report spammers, cam.

The mods are pretty quick in deleting the accounts, but they keep popping up again.  It's like that whack-a-mole game.  Just copy & paste the spammers homepage.

Chess.com reduces the number of abuse reports they have to deal with by setting up a loop.  If people manage to drill down through the help menu until they finally get to this point

and then they click on the link, instead of taking them to the Contact Page the link takes them right back to the very beginning of the Help menu.  You've gotta admit, that's a shrewd way of reducing complaints!

Oh man...'How to report users' is not even the only one that is repeated week after week:

How to improve.

Could (some chesss player from history) beat (some current chess player)

What is the best engine to use.

How to deal with rude players.

Stalmate should be banned.

Is blitz better than online chess?

Opponents refuse to draw/resign.

Something about B. Fischers mental state.

Suspected cheaters.

Just to list a few.

Haha that loop sounds about most people's experience! Shame that it can't be dealt with a little more openly.

Cheers for the link Larry, but I was mostly making a point about the extreme difficulty invovled in reporting people. Your response was pretty much what people have to scrounge to find in order to try and help out the site. There is no clear way to do it unless people come to the forums and ask for help from members.

I know several forums that have a function that auto searches your topic title to suggest that it may already exist. Maybe that could help too?

Yes, I agree that things could be easier with the site.  Maybe the new upcoming version of chess.com will contain ways to make it easier.

I would also like to see a report button on forum posts. It works very well on other forums that I am a part of and would like to see it here; it should increase the quality of the forums here.

(This is unless I do not see it because I am a new member; please tell me if that is the case)

@Larry, Looking forward to seeing that update too! Generally this site runs great, and the new app update has great potential too once the bugs are ironed out.

@Thomas, no there is no button Smile That's pretty much the point of this thread. People keep creating threads asking for "how" to report people, etc. This process is quite a maze if you ever actually want to navigate it.

I agree about other forums ideas. There are some great ways out there to reduce spam, though I'm assuming this is done at a cost on the other end whether it be financial or a lot of coding time that could be spent on other areas of the site.

This does weaken this site considerably, especially when it is trying to promote itself as a classier place to play and learn.

one player threatens to report me for racism because he is black, what will I do?
