remove resign button when opponent has only king left

I believe my opponent in this game mistakenly hit the resign button when he meant to hit the draw button here which would have offered a draw in this scenario after black's 50th move. However, when he hit the resign button, he lost the game in a perfectly drawn position. There was no way for white to lose the game (even on time as black had just the bare king). So to make matters more fair, I think a good idea is to remove the ability to resign when the opponent has just his bare king.

You have to confirm your resignation. At least on the web interface; I haven't played on mobile for a while but I'm sure it's the same there.

So, it's not like the player accidentally resigned. Removing the option,  even in cases like that,  would either force the player to continue playing or just abandon the game instead of just resigning like they can do now. It doesn't really matter if resignation at such a point makes sense or not.

I'm sure they'll put that right after changing the way the Offer / Claim Draw button works Cool

"You have to confirm your resignation."

I think on V3 that's true which is a good improvement and a good alternative to my suggestion. In V2, you hit the resign button and it automatically resigns.

Martin_Stahl,

Yeah, V3 has fixed any accidental resignation issues. I decided to just play a quicky game for a test on this on V2 and it just resigns as soon as you click the button.

Didn't you write an identical forum about the same game?

Yes, should be fixed. Wait 10 years, then maybe.

That depends what you mean by "identical". If you mean by 1=1, no. If you mean by similar content, technically I suppose though that one was more for why the heck did my opponent resign whereas this one, I just used the game as a platform for discussion on about whether the resign option should be removed or not. There was another game I played as well in which my opponent had a sure-fire draw but resigned as opposed to capturing my rook which would have led to bare kings. I could have used that game here as well but it would have taken forever for me to dig down in my list of games and find it.

Ah. It's been a bit since I've played in v2. Didn't realize or remember that.

Well actually, that leads to another interesting suggestion--what I think would be a great idea is to have a feature in the settings that allows you to enable an auto-claim-draw and a "confirm resignation?" option as well. I was playing on V3 a bit this weekend and one thing I didn't like was that the resign button is now a surrender flag so it was a bit of a scavenger hunt to find it rather than the convenient one on V2 so a quick resign in a losing cause was a bit harder to do. But there are pros and cons to both.
