Hi Chess.com!
When you folks do live commentary for chess games, you often have a computer evaluation in the corner. However, I believe that this may give the wrong idea to many enthusiastic chess players like myself trying to get better. Would it be possible to add a sharpness indicator as well?
I offer this idea: The indicator will be how many moves until the winning side loses its advantage.
For example, if there's a poisoned pawn variation in the najdorf where the computer says the best move gives eval -1, the second best move gives eval +0.4. This would have a sharpness indicator of 1. This is a super sharp position. Only 1 move maintains the advantage for black.
If there's a position where you are dominating with the white pieces.
The best comp move gives an eval of +12.
The second best gives an eval of +5.
The third best gives and eval of +4.
The fourth best move gives an eval of +2.
And the fifth best comp move gives an eval of of -1.
Then this would have a sharpness level of four. It's not very sharp, and there are 4 moves white can make to maintain the advantage.
I believe that adding a sharpness indicator would add a different, newer, and more exciting perspective to live commentary, and will be more exciting than placing emphasis on the strongest computer lines.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Warm Regards,
