slow loading of games & other problems

I've been a member here fore a few weeks.

I greatly appreciate the site BUT I have noticed that, especially in the past week or so, the time delay betwee asking for a game & the actual setting of an opponent is increasing dramatically, sometimes taking several minutes.

That's a considerable amount of time when one's only intending to play a agme of 5 min. per side. Genberally there seem to be about 1/3 the number of games going as players on-site. Even if there are only 1-on-1 games going, that's 1000s of others not in a game.

Further, there are times when the software sets up an opponent who then aborts the the game but attempts to re-set a game keep linking one to the same player.

Has anyone else had these problems (I suspect so).

Comments?

Ideas?

Responses to seek ads will depend on the time of day and the popularity of your seek setting / limitations / your own rating.  Change any of those, and you can expect a likely change in seek response time.

So, you're noticing 2/3rds of us here are actively playing chess which sounds about right (not sure what your point was).

That's a logical suggestion but I've tried, literally, all times of day/night with no variance in the effect.

The mention of ratio/proportion of players online X number of games at any time speaks to the number of available players. There are regularly about 2/3 of players on line at any given time who are engaged in games (simply observe the numbers when on aite). We can presume that some who are not playing may be engaged in other activity (forums, vids, etc) but we can also presume that some number of players are engaged in multiple games or games that are operating at slow pace (turn-based, etc). Point being that at any time there seem to be large numbers of available players.

Moreover, this, as mentione at first, is unlike how the site was functioning a few weeks ago.

I for one, often login to Live Chess just to keep tabs on the chat rooms.  Others may enjoy viewing games much of the time.  And then there are the reasons you've mentioned, for being there but not playing.

Hard to say how many are 'available' to play at any particular point in time.  But, it's easy to see what response a seek ad gets.  For sure, as you get stronger and into strong B class and beyond, seek ad response drops off for blitz and longer games I've found.

I was on ICC for four years, the ratio of online players vs non-players there seemed comparable with here.  I've not compared now vs several weeks ago.  I do know that there has been a major boost (doubling?) in general attendance in the chat rooms at Live Chess this past month or two, versus previous months.

You want to play more often?  Two suggestions:

1. offer to replay your current opponent

2. behave courteously (to avoid being 'blocked', else eventually you will indeed find your seek ad response slows down as more and more regulars get around to 'blocking' a less than courteous player so they need not be distracted by that member's seek ads)
