Some suggestions to chess.com+a mistake by GM Roman

Hi!

I really like chess Mentor, but there doesnt seem to be enough of those 'courses' for my level,at the part where it really can help:Strategy!

And,I don't really like the video lectures, since they are not interactive and misleading .

for example,in

Crime and Punishment in the Opening by GM Roman Dzinchashvili

video,in 1:40 he said "either Nd2 or e3...Nd2 was in the game".

Now,while it is true that he said he woudln't talk a lot about the opening,

e3?? is a gross blunder since after Nxf2! black is winning (The knight forks the queen and the rook. If Kxf2 then Bg3+! followed by Qxd1 and white can resign).

Unimportant, you might argue. Well, tell that to a hypothetic 1400 player who advocately followed this video, thought that it didnt matter as the GM said, and played e3?? only to discover that he is completly lost!

So,I suggest that some more effort would be put into chess mentor, rather than to those chess videos. It is interactive, instructive, and if mistakes like the one above happened in chess mentor,it is a matter of a few minutes to fix that (rather than refilming the chess video...). As it is there are too many 'courses' of 15 positions, which is not enough IMHO.

Best,

Yoni.

If you don't like part of the site, don't use that part.

He never said what you claim.  He said: "Bishop takes (at d6), e3 or Nd2... Nd2 is first".

Also,  6 e3 is not the gross blunder that you think it is, although 6 Nd2 is better.

After 6 e3, 6 ... Nxf2? loses the piece to 7 Kxf2 Bg3+, 8 Ke2

(Edited to correct error that was pointed out)

Tom,

the Knight is already on f3, making Qh4+ lines impossible.

Yes,I def. made a mistake there.

How i did not see Ke2! is interesting...Still,chess mentor was neglected. Not a decent new course in a year or two at least. (Most of the new courses length is about 20 positions or sth like that.)

As you don't have a game history here it is not possible for me to know your playing strength but I'm guessing that you looked at the position without a board. Your visualization failed because (on this occasion, anyway) White's saving move was just over your "horizon".

Qh4+ isn't impossible, it's  just stupid. Tongue out

I was analyzing something else that didn't include Nf3, and I got lost.  Thanks for pointing out the mistake.
