Take back option mobile app

Hey,

I'm playing a lot of games with a friend of mine. We play games where taking back moves is allowed. He plays a lot on his phone and it seems that he isn't able to take back moves on his phone. I checked on his phone and I'm also not able to find a take back button. I can't find a lot about it on the fora. I found one 2016 post which also suggests this button is missing on phones: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/where-is-the-takeback-buton-on-android-and-ios-apps

Can anybody tell me if this button is indeed missing or if I just overlooked it? If it is indeed missing I would suggest implementing this option on the phone as it's pretty inconvenient if it isn't availeble.

Do you mean actually making a move, realizing that your queen is lost and being given a chance to make another move?

Or just a button to confirm your move is correct before it is sent to the server and your opponent.

There are no takebacks in rated chess.

There is a "confirm move" button in Daily Chess. (not in Live Chess.)

I mean the former. I play unrated chess games with my friend and I enable the take back move option. It works on the site, but I don't see it in the app.

I think it is only available in unrated daily games.

Yes that's what I'm saying. But I only see this option when I play on the website. I don't see it on the phone which is weird.

It seems now that, as well as there not being a take back option on the phone, the takeback option on the site also doesn't work well. Every time I took back the move of my friend, the same move was made again. I first thought he did this. I checked his phone however, and when I took back his move, the computer would automatically reset the position again before the move was taken back, without him doing anything.

Unfortunately, takeback has yet to be implemented in the app. 😞 If you want to take advantage of this feature, your only option at this time is to use the website. Also, do be aware that even on the website, takeback is only available in unrated games.

@ arabinativ is correct. What I do is create the game in a mobile web browser. because then you have all the features found on the website, like take back. If you have a smart phone with a big screen using Chrome for Android or iOS works fine for chess.com. Unfortunately there are quite a number of features on the website not in the Apps. I mainly use the app for the lessons sections, puzzles and live games.

New app.doesn't let me return moves vs computer. Why? This used to be possible, why was it removed?

It's 2025 and they still haven't implemented it.

Hello folks! Just passing by to note down that we're aware this key feature is behind in implementation on the app version of our platform. Thanks for taking the time, and sharing your request.

Yes. Almost 7 years behind (or is it 10 or more?) would indicate to me, at least, that there is no real intent to implement it. Some apps have large changes made frequently, so I know it is possible, just not probable. I have a chess partner who agreed to play unrated games for fun without affecting our ratings. It sure would be nice if the app had the same features as the web gui.
