So just to recap what we've learned, if you delete your account then all your posts go POOF!.

I think that the Posts of People who hv closed their Accounts should not disappear cuz they might contain useful/interesting info/advice !

The whole idea of a member being able to delete his posts after they're published sounds quite questionable to me.

Crazychessplaya

[COMMENT DELETED] should be replaced with [COMMENT MODIFIED] or equivalent, as it is in fact still there.

YuvalW

it was a normal delete in 2007 when I joined this site, there were situations where A would responde to B, and B would then delete his post and confusion will occur

also there was a bug where if you deleted your first message after opening a new topic the second guy to comment would become the author..
when someone posted a puzzle and another guy responded saying there's an error, the first guy will delete the puzzle and it will be:

topic: "Epic MATE in 14!!!!!!!! HARDHARD!!"
message: "Your puzzle is wrong since white can just play 1.Qh8#"

Edit: but that's not what you we're talking about :p
You shouldn't be able to delete posts, as soon as it's out it's public, it's not yours anymore...

Act,it is ; Tnx for d info,boring304 !

There is a way to delete your own comments without leaving any trace.  All you have to do is [COMMENT DELETED].

Possibly.  Then again, they've often been closed for the posts themselves and their flagitious content (God, I love that word).

Then too suppose you want to respond to them and they're not even there anymore...?

Yeah ,rite, but I'm referring to Members who have closed their Accounts by themselves ,and not closed by staff for any form of abuse ...

One of my friends closed his account recently and all his posts dissappeared soon after ; it was quite weird/funny to see some of my replies to his questions ,on my Tourney Forums .. without his original quetions being there ! ... Anyone reading those would not be able to make sense of them ... lol ! Laughing

Maybe instead of their posts disappearing altogether, something could be added to those posts to indicate that the Author is no longer here .. like a special icon or suitable short phrase beside their username or comment . ( so we wld know and no one would unknowingly reply/respond to their comments whilst waiting for a reply .)

Wow!  That is an amazingly strong theoretical novelty, possibly a refutation of the Sicilian Defence as a whole.  I'll have to try that out in my games.  Thanks.

As it happens, many of the OPs couldn't be trusted to act responsibly, and would likely be deleting posts that disagree with their opinion or criticize their play or whatever they don't happen to like. Also, I wouldn't want to see tangentially related posts deleted.

My vote would be an emphatic no.

Exactly, leaving it as it is doesn't bother me...

Writing [COMMENT DELETED] in this post is very confusing...

clinttherakam

I guess is does bother me Undecided
