In my opinion, no faster than 25|10. If really pressed for time, I would sometimes (rarely) play 15|10.
But this is an interesting question, I too would like to know what more experienced players think.

ok, but the thing is that i cant calculate. i just move by impulse. in otb, i can calculate well, but online, well, not so much.
At least 30 minutes per side and even that isn't so great for practicing unless you're playing an OTB tournament that is G/30 (a time control I absolutely hate)
For tournaments, I'd say don't play practise games too long, since you don't want to tire your mind.
I'd suggest 15|10
I think it depends on the tournament your entering. A good middle ground is probably 10 minutes flat. You do have the sense of rush in a way but at, say, an average of 30 moves, 3 moves a minute, not so bad. I play the most 15/10 games and enjoy them lots. Well...I dont think I helped lol. Meeting ajourned.
Which live chess time control would be the best if i wanted to practice and prepare for a tournament? I would prefer 10 minutes or under if there is a good time control.
