Sounds good. Are there already 6 nation teams created, or are you suggesting they should be formed for this tournament?
Calling all UK players! Chess 6 Nations?

I'm suggesting that either they are formed groups or teams, there are already seperate welsh, english etc groups on here which people could join and the tournament entry will be through the participating groups, or it could be the case of a restricted entry tournament on the basis of your country where the teams will then be grouped within the tournament from individual players.
I'm still planning the tournament structure at the moment to see how it will work, but I'm just hoping that the idea will get enough interest to actually get this up and running.

hmmmm, a cunning plan to win the 6 nations by only telling the UK players about it.
Sorry........I'll hope you spread the word for me on the emerald isle......I got the title to my thread wrong!

No worries MrBogs, I've mentioned the idea in our Team Ireland forum, we'll see what people think! 6 nations, were you thinking French and Italian as well then?

Yes mate, it will be the same as the Rugby version, aslong as I get the format and structure right I know this will work and will make an interesting tournament.

is there a way that you can make a tournement just like the ones in the tournement option for teams instead of single players?

I formed team england! and we already have matches against all the other 5 nations ongoing :-) please let me know what you plan, as we may be interested in joining :-)

I'm glad to see that this has generated some interest, as soon as I have come up with my format I will post it, gumpty if your playing games aginst france and italy at the moment.......spread the word and point them to this topic. I will send messages to teams on here when its ready to go.
Once I have done a format the tournament I will be open for some feedback on it to maybe improve it.........the idea is to make it interesting and something that can be done on a regular basis.
Let's make it really interesting by only playing the opening associated with your own countries (by that I mean the first 3 or 4 set moves that define the openings): the England team get the English Opening, the French get the French Defence, the Scots get the Scotch Gambit, the Welsh get the (Sicilian) Dragon, the Italians get the Giuoco Piano, the Spanish get the Ruy Lopez, the Austrians get the Vienna, ... the Irish, well, we'll play an opening that we'll devise ourselves, we'll call it , say, the (ahem) ("Remember Stuttgart") Shillelagh and batter the bejaypers out of everybody. Anybody up for this?
Seriously, though, the teams should be sectioned into ratings categories (senior, medium, junior), just to level the pitch.

Ficheall do you not know the Irish Gambit?

6 Nations Team Chess Tournament
Each team will be made up of 50 players in each rating category playing 6 simultaneous matches. Points will be awarded for a win and a draw only. Results will be transferred to a league table on completion of individual matches within a team match for an in play score sheet. The winner will be declared on completion of all games.
Each team will be split into 4 rating categories to form 4 tournaments of equal ratings, these will be:
Six Nations <1200
Six Nations <1500
Six Nations <1800
Six Nations <2100
Each tournament will have its own results table to decide the winner of each ratings range.
If possible an overall results table can be formed on completion of all tournaments to declare an overall winner.
This is the structure I have come up with for this tournament, any feedback or input on this would be gratefully recieved.

This sounds great
If we're welcome on the other side of the channel as in rugby event, I'll let know to all the members of the Franch team I'm handling. (Les bleus)

I think its a great idea, am sure my Team Ireland will take to it nicely. I suggest a planning group is created for the admin of the Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Italy and Wales if it has not already been done.
A ladder system or the likes would need to be organised, would this be vote chess or match style? Timers... rated/unrated.. etc.

I agree with the lobster although generally not sure what she is on about but its a good place to start

Hi LOB, will be looking at a 3 day turn basis match style chess. I like the idea of setting up a group to sort out the admin side of things, we can then use this group to get other tournaments off the ground by sending invites out to other groups. I'll work on setting something up then invite all group admins to join so we can discuss this within the group and work together to set it up.
Hi every one, this is my first post within the forums, so I hope it goes down well...lol!
I've recently joined one of the chess groups on here and I'm really interested with interacting more on here to improve my game and to get the most out of this site aswell as making new chess buddies within a team scenario, so.................
With the international rugby season now looming, and the new year getting ever so closer, has anyone considered maybe setting up a six nations style tournament? I think it would be a great idea if it was set up and organised right, and if all the groups concerned got together to structure a workable format it could become a regular thing or even form the basis for a world cup style event on this site. Any ideas or feedback anyone?
