Hi everybody,
I've created a new tournament, the
Eternity Of Chess tournament.
What is this?
Well, the world we live in is restless, hyper-dynamic, stressfull and a subject of permanent changes. Motion and movement all over, no places to rest. When I look at this hustle and bustle around me, I feel that I really need some ledgers, some points in my daily life that don't change, on which I can count on. Thank God, I've got those points, for example in the love of my wonderful wife.
Nevertheless I want to create another anchor, a point that will be there and stay unchanged for a longer period of time, a stable place you can visit now and then and that will be waiting for you in the state you left it: This tournament.
Maybe you ask yourself right now: "Is a chess tournament suitable for being such a fixed point?" Yes, I think so. Chess is an ancient game, played for centuries. And a single chess game can take a lot of time; think about the (longest?) correspondence chess game between Karl Brenzinger and Francis Brenzinger - it started 1859 and took about 16 years.
According to this, a chess tournament could be such an anchor, a litte piece of stability, yes, even a glimpse of eternity.
This Idea in mind, I configurated the Eternity Of Chess tournament accordingly: Twelve chosen one premiums will play in groups of two, one game a time. For every move a player gets 14 days to think about it and vacation is naturally allowed.
So this tournament will take a while until it is finished, but don't forget, that is it's purpose. Participating in this tournament is more of making a statement for continuity rather than playing a training-focused bunch of games in a row. That means, join it as an additional tournament to your normal workload.
How shall we start the games of such a special tournament? The standard-position is not sufficient, I think. Going down in chess history, I encountered the Immortal Game, the unforgetable game played by Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky on 21 June 1851 in London. "Immortal" goes fine with "Eternity", right?
So it seemed to be a good idea to begin our games with the opening of the Immortal Game, the King's Gambit.
Now you know the story behind the Eternity Of Chess tournament.
I hope you like it and maybe we see each other at the board?
Greetings and good luck in all of your games!
Chris
