Theoretically 6 players will move into round 3 but if it does two groups of 3 players, only one from each group will move to round 4, barring ties. A group will never have more than half, rounded down, move into the next round, unless there are ties.

Thanks Martin, if two players reach 4th round as per your explanation then it matches the total number of games as 2 games to be played between them in 4th round.
I am participating in a tournament . The tournament stats say 72% complete with 123 games. This means total around 170-171 games to be played. 33 more games are to be played in current round 2. So 14-15 games left. Max group size is 5 players with 2 advance. 12 players reached in 2nd round. We have 3 groups of 4 players each. With 2 advances from each group total 6 players shall reach 3rd round. They will be divided in 2 groups of 3 players each. This means total 12 games in 3rd round. Now only 3 games left for 4th round. So I am confused as the math is not working out . How many advance to 4th round ?
