Start very young. Before puberty. Work like a dog at it, every day. Get a good trainer. I hear Kasparov is pretty good.
How do you become a Master?

Why is it people think you have to start so young to achieve a master rating? Besides talent, you need lots of practice to achieve a master rating. There really is no practical reason why a 30 or 40 year old, with plenty of time to study would not be able to reach a master rating.
40 Years old is the new 12 year old.
Also, why are people so impressed when a 12 year old achieves a master rating? It happens so often now that you see an 8 year old with a 1900 rating that it hardly seems that it would be special.

I tryin' man.
It could take a while. Do you have 10 years or so to wait?
This may sound very amateur-ish but I want to know how to become a chess master, grand master etc.? I only just signed up and want to know if this has any contributing factors. Thank you in advance.
