Yup plenty of tournies with max group size of 2. However, more than 1/2 players advance each round because when players split they both advance. Players are reseeded every round based on current ratings.

I've been wondering: are there any tournaments that start out with 64 players who each play one game the first round so that there are 32 players in the next round and 16 in the round after that (etc.)? Sort of like NCAA March Madness.
