I am begining with chess.com and ignorant about tournaments. If one subscribes to a tournament, how does it work? Does one has to take initiative or just wait? What does #attack 2 for example mean and what does ‘multiple games’ actually means?

Most of the paramters are defined in the following: https://support.chess.com/article/119-how-do-i-create-a-tournament
Basically, the tourney will have a starting condition, often a certain number of players. When that condition is met, the tourney is started, so you have to wait until then. The options are that you will play every member in your group either one game at a time or two. So, for a group of 5, you would play 4 games in the first case, or 8 in the latter.
