Opening move

Perhaps for research purposes, I thought of tournament where you are given a first move. Over 400 games in first round. All 20 responses of Black to all 20 moves of White will be played. To earn a new "opening move," you must beat it. If you lose, you are out. If there is a draw, play the same oppoent until one of you wins.

If you are given the black opening move of "1. ... b5." Regardless of your opponent's given opening move, your response will be b5. If you beat your opponent, you gain that opening move option. Suppose your first opponent is given the e4 opening move. Thus, the first move of this example is 1. e4 b5. If you (b5) beat your opponent (e4), in your next you can play white and open with e4 or play black and respond with b5. However, if you lose the game, you are out of the tournament. If there is a draw you must play the same opponent--in this example b5 must be played against e4 until one side wins.
