Another useful tip could be not to make the move at the end of the day, better wait to next morning after having a good sleep.
Players Purposefully Waiting
you can be banned by taking 2 - 2.5 days to move (in a 3day/move game)...
really?
if thats true, i should have been banned a few dozens time by now.
I am playing a tournament that started about a week ago, and there is this one guy who has been only a couple hours short of the full 3 days to make a move. For each move, in each of his games. Yes, as long as he is not reaching the limit he is doing nothing illegal, that's what the time-limit is for, but:
- He waited almost 3 days to make his FIRST move for each game in the tournament. I mean come on, what are you gonna study?
- I checked, and he is currently playing 477 (!!) games. That is 477 people waiting. Still convinced he is reasonable?
- His status now says 'on vacation', don't know for how long. Of course he is, how is he gonna keep up with 477 games?
In the least, this is very inconsiderate. Can I report him, and if yes, how?
Thanks.
you CAN report anyone and for any reason, the link is on the "Help & Support" section of the website.
the better question is , do you have grounds for a genuine complaint against this guy? and my opinion is "NO".
"BUT"... is a word that is the big clue- I Very much agree "as long as he is not reaching the limit he is done nothing [illegal]" I would even use the word wrong.
as for his 477 games- don't you think that this is HIS business?

I would be very interested to know about these disciplinary actions against someone using their vacation time or using their full time control.
it doesn't sound very fair to me at all.

I do not believe anyone has been banned for something like that. If you have to make a move in 3 days you could take 2 days,23 hours, 59 minutes and up to the last few seconds to make each and every move if you want and the site won't do anything about it. Unless you are premium and then you'll be put on vacation before that ever happens.
The site can adjudicate a game if a player is using vacation time to draw out a hopelessly lost position. Look up vacation abuse in the help pages.
How do you guys feel about players purposefully waiting until they're about to time out to make their moves? I'm in a tournament right now and all the games in my group have finished except for one guy who hasn't finished a single game.
We have three days to move and I expected there to be some people who play at a slower rate (totally fine with that). But what's bothersome is that this person will log in and only play moves for games that he's within hours or minutes of timing out for and not make moves for any of the other games until he absolutely has to. If you only log in every 2 days or so I'd understand. But to log in every day and still make people wait seems rude. Maybe this doesn't bother others, the game will obviously eventually end. But it's inconsiderate to me.
I do that, but only because I have 89 online chess games going on right now, and most are 3 days
And to take a little time to think about each game, if I do that to each game, I would take 30 minutes to play all of those.

No he hasnt done anything wrong. I dont beklieve we have the reached a point in our civiliation where we start reporting people for inconviencing us over an online game of chess.
Maybe making you wait is his strategy. He making you crack under the pressure of your own impatientness. Pretty soon you well be blogging about.
For those suggesting these people should be reported, that's ridiculous. They have every right to take the time they're alloted. It's my fault for not joining a tournament with a maximum hours/move if I really wanted to play quick correspondance. It's just frustrating for impatient people like me is all. And I was just curious if it was something people talk about on here.
LuckyDan makes a great point too, because I am very inclined to get a membership (have already asked for one for my birthday, moreso to do lessons though). But not benig about to start another tournament is killing me! And I might not even make it to round 2 for months haha.
But I'm really glad I posted this because you all have given some excellent advice :)
I have 2 games going now, and even on the first move i took 3 days. Why? To force myself to slow down and take my time, when i would normally have rattled off moves after a few seconds.
In the current tournament I took 3 days to play my first move in most of my games. I only wanted to focus on 1-2 games at a time. So I played one pretty regularly until I was in a strong winning position (where I didn't have to think and could afford minor errors) and then started playing another. Still finished all in ~3 weeks, but basically just played 1 game over 3-4 days. The other person in the group who was playing slow were my last two and I just played a move every few days to match their pace.
One thing to do is use conditional moves when obvious. They don't have to respond immediately, but usually do so it helps speed it up a little bit.
On an unrelated note, I'd [that is really not appropriate -- MOD].
Mods are targetting me because I'm jewish. Anti-semitic!

One might-infer-from-that; That, it was a sort of " 'Cosmic'- 'Jedi'-'mind-trick"..{re. morality of course}; That would've proverbally; Made 'Job' 'blush'! 0:
