<p>When a tournament gets created with say a <1600 setting nobody is allowed to join over that. And if someone's rating does go over that the system automatically removes them. However, when you invite a group to join a group tournament everyone gets invited which is fine but then the rating settings become obsolete. I am currently hosting 2 team tourneys and the people in the <1600 tourney want to know why they are playing people with a much higher rating. This needs changing desperately so that people within a certain rating can't join lower rated tourneys

For member-created tournaments, the Tournament Director has to remove players manually prior to the start. (For a non-group tournament, you can set the rating limit to 1550 so there are fewer removals.)

During the tournament players can improve. Set a high completed games limit, more than the default five games. Perhaps 255 games completed so there is some confidence the ratings are reliable.

Well when you invite a group like chess unlimited you send out invites to almost 2000 members. Imagine how much work it will be to sift through over 30 pages of invited members to pull out the ones over the rating limit. When you remove 1 player it goes back to page 1 which means it could potentially take me nearly 3 hours going through it all? Why not just change the code to stop players over 1600 joining a <1600 tournament?

I've argued before that there should be a parameter-driven messaginng capabilityl, so one can send an email-type broadcast, not, e.g. to everyone in chess unlimited, but only to all those rated over 1550,for instance.

I totally agree with you Donna, i do a tournament for <2000 rated players and there are loads of players over 2000 rating in it about to knock out of my tournament as well.

We don't need this parameter all we need is the same settings as non group tourneys where the limit says 1600 and actually means 1600

unfortunately the only way is to go through those pages Donna its a pain maybe chess.com could do something about that put it to them and that could be the next improvement they make

It shouldn't be like that. :( This is why i've posted this forum. As it is i've not got computer access so I don't have 5 hours to hunt through almost 40 pages of invited members

I know that chess.com used to handle this (manually?) for their official tournaments.

seem sensible but do you really get that many eejits over 1600 rating signing up for a tournament that clearly says it's for < 1600?

There is an auto-move for official tournaments.

In the distant past there was auto-delete for member-created tournaments.

............... or you can do what i did! you create a regular tournament with a 1600 and below limit, and then do a mass mailing to all the members informing them that this is a CHESS UNLIMITED TOURNY ONLY, for members rated @ 1600 and below, and hope that of the 5000 invites you send out, that 100  CU members will quickly fill up the tournament before any outsiders get a chance to join! !!!....... or if you do a team tourny, can more than 100 people join? I don't know?? I only make tournys with a 100 player limit! I think this is the max allowed for the tourny I have made any way! Perhaps in a team tourny more than 100 can join?

Problem is when you create a normal tournament you cannot check if all are actually from the team
