Tournament setup

I'm trying to create my first tournament. I want it to have 12 players and I want the players to play both of their games simultaneously but I don't want to have 22 simultaneous games. I'm assuming I need to separate them into groups but I don't see where to do that.

Why 'groups'?  I mean, what's the point?  What meaning would the outcome have?

If you don't want 22 simultaneous games which is a natural outcome of 12 players, then I suggest reduce your tournament to 6 players (= 10 simultaneous games).

The point of groups would be to have rounds. The other point would be so I can still have a 12 person tournament but not have to play 22 simultaneous games. If I had, instead, 6 groups of two then it would just be 2 simultaneous games. Really, it's because 2-4 people just doesn't feel like a tournament to me.

Rounds?  So, every game would need to complete before the next round could start?  This ADDS to the total time for the event (a notable fault imo).

As to the "six groups of two" concept, (geesh!  think about that in practice:  each 'round' ADDS another delay while everyone waits for the slowest game to complete).  Why not just scrap the whole 'Round Robin' pairing concept and go with Swiss Style pairing instead, then?

But I doubt if the site's able to handle the most popular (imo) tournament pairing method on the planet, so you'd need to post pairings and a crosstable on your own.

I think I figured it out. I'm a gold member but I need to be a platinum member in order to have more setup options.

Also, you say it's a fault for the event to last a long time but I wasn't looking for a quick tournament. I want a casual tournament. I've played in tournaments exactly like the one I was trying to setup so I know it's possible.

Interesting (though, I do see that "groups & teams" can be managed by Gold members).

Well, another way to start up more such tournaments would be to encourage any of the earlier Platinum or Diamond premium members who've played in such events to 'start' another one for you.

Sounds like a "knock out" tournament:  http://support.chess.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/80/12/how-does-a-round-robin-knock-out-tournament-work

Yeah, it would be a knockout tournament. The thing about Gold members being able to manage Groups and Teams is if I wanted to set up a group. Under the tournament Help it says Gold members can't form tournaments with groups and rounds. It's alright, though. Thanks for your input.
