USCF Lifetime Membership for Chess.Com Tourneys?

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm during these strange times. Covid-19, the Derecho, various shenanigans, and the upcoming winter. I just had a question. I have not played in an over the board tournament since 2010. I was wondering if a USCF lifetime membership would be worth it? I'm getting older and it appears that chess is becoming more than just a hobby now. I ended up just buying 12 chess books the past month because I watched the Queen's Gambit. Yikes!

Since Chess.com is hosting more online tournaments and the various tournaments appear to need official ratings, I am wondering if it's feasible to get it to enter? Also should I get three cameras so I can have one on my face, my mouse, and the back of the room? What other things can I do help me perform better and be a good tournament player for online events? Sorry for questions. I don't normally participate on online tournaments too much.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Pretty sure you don't need to worry about camera coverage until you become a titled player.  Maybe set your sights a little lower and join this club.  If you really enjoy it, then maybe go for a lifetime instead of an annual.  Have fun.  Let me go find that club link....

Thank you so much! I didn't know that this club existed. I just saw that side tournaments are happening this weekend. I am renewing my membership now! I appreciate your response. I think because of you I am able joined my first online USCF rated Tournament this year!

The side events are in the Members Only club.

Whether or not a Life membership is worth it to you is a calculation.

One pro is you never have to worry about expiring. But for $1,500, how long would you need to keep a membership paying yearly to add up to that amount (taking into account membership price increases)?

If you have 25+ years of tournament play ahead of you, it's likely worth it if you have the disposable income. If you have less than that, or likely do, then it may not be cost effective, but still might be worthwhile to support the US Chess Federation.
