Vacation abuse

Sort:

Hi,

I am playing in a tournament and just have one more game left. If I win I will have won all games.

My opponent Neotom is using auto vacation all the time so it is not fair time control. Why is it even possible to go on vacation like 10 times in a short period if time or like every second move?

I have used vacation once due to actual vacation.

Is this the way it is supposed to work?

Best regards, Thomas

Premium members automatically get placed on vacation when low on time in one or more of their games.

Vacation abuse is when a member is using it to prolong a hopelessly lost game.

Ok so I can also use this thing I guess to bypass the 3 day time control. I have not seen a setting for automatic vacation, only manually setting to vacation.

Will vacation be set for me if time is running out?

Martin_Stahl

Yes, as long as a game is not part of a no-vacation tournament. Auto-vacation will deduct 24 hours of rime from your vacation bank.

It isn't really meant ro give additional thinking time but sometimes life gets busy and it is useful to burn some vacation when that happens.

Hi,
I face the same issue in a tournament. If rules are not the same for everybody depending on what you pay, why not paying more to have an extra-queen or the right to waive a mat?
Ridiculous.

Because vacation doesn't give a game winning advantage.

The rules are the same, you can also use vacation if you for some reason don't have time to follow up your games for a period. The only difference is that free members must log in and activate vacation, paying members will get their own AI secretary who takes care of it.

Not a very ridiculous advantage compared to having the paying members sponsoring all the content that free members gets access to.

abuse??? relax!

Hi,

I mean games being automatically suspended each time the diamond player is not playing, I don't mean real vacation which is of course Ok. Then you just have to wait days and days that the guy plays (instead of 3 days).

Look at the other posts, I'm not the only one complaining.

But Ok, I'm not fixing the rules...

Have good time

Im in a tournament and my opponent hasn't made a move in 4 months. Unlimited vacation...people should just drop out if they are not interested in the games. They just hold everyone else hostage. I guess that makes them feel important

Start: Sep 28, 2016 is not 4 months.

I experienced the same abuse several times. And I am experiencing it right now.

A certain player is "On vacation" but he logged in several times a week and even make moves on other games.

I think the rules on vacation should change. Once activated, all games with below 25% of time control shall go vacation mode. The account shall be on vacation mode UNTIL the member login and at that moment an option shall be shown where to "turn off vacation mode" or not. If the member chose to turn off vacation mode, all games shall be re-activated. Upon re-activation the member needs to make at least one move for all games that underwent vacation mode. Any game that did not have a new move after being re-activated cannot go to vacation mode. If the member made a move on a re-activated game, auto-vacation mode will be available again.

it's a strategy to make impatient players rage quit to get an easy win

chess.com rules are that when youre on vacation you are still allowed to login and play.

That is what needed to be changed. You cant be on vacation mode on one game and playing on another.

Exactly.  Its your vacation time to do as you wish.  No one has a right to to tell you how to spend your vacation.

If you are on vacation you can't make a move in any Daily games, unless it is a game in a no-vacation tourney. Other uses of the site are not restricted.

@E2Efour, as you see @Martin_Stahl has answered you properly. It seems like you are two-faced as vacation abuse is exactly what you are doing right now in our game you have mentioned in this thread.

I was once on a long vacation- I wrote you about the reason and apologized in privite message. I have even lost on time our second parallel game (was playing white, position even) due to this reason (not realized vacation was over).

Now as you have started loosing (according to my evaluation) in our second game you still keep this game paused for few weeks although you have logged in today for example. You keep people waiting for the next round of tournament although loosing in this last game means nothing (in terms of tournament) as we both go to the next round (tie in points and in tie-break).

I am constantly landing in auto vacation mode because I turned off e-mail alerts, but since it takes a minimum 24 hours off my vacation time even if I come off the auto vacation in 1 hour I don't regard it as a problem.  People who want fast chess should be playing live chess or no vacation chess.  Even a 3-day game is going to take a while even without vacation mode so a few extra days of vacation mode is irrelevant.

I can't imagine many people are sat there for 72 hours straight analysing their position and then decide to let auto-vacation kick in so that they can get some extra time to look at it.  In my case I don't even look at my positions until I actually log in to move.

I am playing now 3 games against players who seemingly have extra-long vacations. Even if it is a little bit annoying, I don't suspect anything at all, but I would like to know : Is it possible to check somewhere (in the status of the player?) how many vacation days an opponent still has?

The information tab of a game on vacation will tell you how many days that player has left. That isn't 100% accurate as members get new days during the month but is a good guideline.
