No, it's a way to avoid people making meaningless moves in completely lost positions in an attempt to flag their opponent, either because their opponents hands aren't as quick or because converting a win usually requires more thought than trying to string out a loss.

So you are saying it is more trouble for a blitz cheater to put software on their computer than it is for a long time control player to put software on their computer?
I would say people are more inclined to cheat on faster time controls than slower time controls because the desired results (high rating) can be reached much more quickly. And the 'bad ass' component many blitz players seem to have would just breed the desire to cheat for ego reasons.
Maybe we can ask Chess.com to post, along with the names of the people cheating, the types of games they were most often believed to have cheated in. I'm quite certain, considering how you feel, that you would be surprised.

Some games by their nature are much longer (in terms of number of moves) than others. A player shouldn't be forced to 'guess' how long the game is going to be and then decide whether to make fast, unsound moves or to make slow, better moves based on that. Increment, quite rightly, gives more time to play games with more moves, and less time to play games with fewer moves.
And I'll repeat what I said before, some endgames (e.g. Knight + pawn endings) require so much more care & calculation from the winning side, so if both players have equal time the winning side may even be at a disadvantage since they're more likely to flag.
I think I should say here: I personally don't care if people cheat. Perhaps I have played against someone who used an engine. I don't know.
But, I do know, if I did, and I lost, than I learned something from the game.
So who's the real winner there?
I agree with Kleef. I really doubt that many people are cheating at my low level. And if sometimes I play against someone who cheated, what do I care? We are not playing for prize money. It is internet chess. I doubt that there are as many cheaters as some insist on thinking. Maybe people want to believe that instead of admitting that they are not very good?

Yes. It would appear a lot get caught. I've seen days that have 100+. However, you have to take into account that 1) there are thousands of players here and 2) many of those who are caught are repeat offenders.
Quicker games are good for excercise, extra competetion and fun.....but can never replace original slow/conventional chess games. All the historical classical and brilliant games are of slower time control. But yes there must be some degree of time control to make it interesting for the viewers also. Just like Cricket have 3/4 different time specefic games against initial 5 days, they developed new designs of 3 days, 1 day and now 20/20 overs.
While playing onine, I play 10 min game...blitz but physically, I play standard....normally 25 min each time.
Thats also something that I aggree with. All of the magical games have been played in slow time controls. There is still some good games in quick ofcourse. But more of them in slow.
