Where do you find real life tournements?

I was wondering where you find real life tournements? What do you have to do to join one? Are the entry fees usually reasonable? I am not amazing at chess so it would likely be for the experience only.

No, that's actually been his experience of late (and they're all in Wyoming).

Check out USCF at uschess.org, they have listings of clubs and tournaments in your area.  I would start at a local club first and get some experience playing OTB at the club level, get your USCF membership so you can get a rating and enjoy.
