Your current rating is too far below your peak to join this tournament

What does this even mean? My rating has constantly fluctuated throughout my time playing in tournaments. There are times where I play at rating 1000 and other times at 750 in bullet, but this implies that I should play at my peak rating at a constant level. Is there a way to argue this and be able to play in tournaments again? It seems a bit ridiculous especially due to time pressure and different preps for each player for different lines.

Your rating has fallen 355 points in only two weeks.  That's a lot more than a normal fluctuation

It's keeping me from joining a bunch of tournaments which are the most fun thing on this site :/ like sometimes I'll play after some devils lettuce and drop my rating a bunch, the rules are wayyy too strict for whatever perceived damage prevented - some random trying to win a bullet tournament? the heck?

Unless you can explain how the 400 point jump in your rating last month was just a normal fluctuation...

Wrong thread. This one is about people restricted from playing tournaments because their rating has fallen too far from its peak

I get you're frustrated, but it doesn't seem ridiculous to me. The rule is in place for a valid reason.  The server knows you can play better than your current rating so it's blocking you from competing in low rated tourneys.  Use a smurf to play when stoned...problem solved.

matty817

no malicious intent, but you should gradually get better or at the very least stay around the same rating, if you are around a 1000 well you might need a coach , or improve your tactics .even with the devils lettuce  lol I still stay around the same rating. 4 years now

For me with leagues, I've been trying to play simultaneous games. Naturally, I do not play nearly as well while playing 10-20 games at a time as I do with one at a time. The arena tournaments are pretty much an open field anyway so I don't understand why it's even an issue to be let into those tournaments. I've played people in them from 600 - 2300+ so it doesn't make much sense to me. In reality, there should be a different rating system for simultaneous games.

Dumbluck626

Idk what you're talking about. There is no rule that says that and I'm currently in 17th place globally in Crystal League. Nobody from chess.com has reached out to me to say otherwise. You cannot play simultaneous tournament games as it is not permitted in the system.

Now should simultaneous games be allowed? No, for one simple reason. Non-paying members cannot play simultaneous games. Is it in chess.com's best interest to allow simultaneous games? Absolutely! It encourages membership. If you wanna play one at a time, that's your prerogative. Until they change the rules or say otherwise, I shall continue to play, and get points for, simultaneous games.

Dumbluck626

mods are volunteers. They do not write the rules here are the rules. https://www.chess.com/news/view/chesscom-releases-leagues They have listed exclusions. Simultaneous games are not listed. I'm going to play by the official rules just like the other 2.5 million people in the leagues were given. If they decide to change it, that's fine. Until then, simultaneous games give points. End of discussion

Officially, simultaneous games are supposed to be unrated only and unrated games don't count for leagues. The site is actually working on a technical change to prevent simultaneous games from counting for trophies.

Regarding your first point, having a large rating decrease means that it is no longer indicative of your true strength, so the system prevents playing in events in such cases. It's a mechanism to prevent sandbagging impacting events.

Hey Martin, This is Nathan (from Joplin). Any chance you could send me a message on Facebook or here when they do remove the simul feature. I'm honestly going for the $10,000

It's just a year, not lifetime

So the chess.com programming left an accidental loophole to do something that is in fact contrary to the rules, and if I read you right, you want to use it anyway, right up to the last possible minute?  Because money?

Dumbluck626

Go to the link provided for the rules. Use ctrl + f. Now search every single version of the word simultaneous. There is nothing in the rules that prevents that. Chess.com is easily one of the world's largest chess websites and you want to tell me that they wrote the rules, mentioned nothing about simultaneous games, and magically because people want it to be a rule it is one. You want to tell me that they haven't hired world class programmers who could easily make simultaneous games for unrated only but have chosen not to and it still is set up to give out points. Literally, if they choose to change the rules, that's fine. If they take trophies away, that is at minimum a form of fraud and they will have to compensate not only the people they've taken trophies from but also the people who missed out on cuts. Occam's Razor says they will go with the simplest route and allow simultaneous games until they officially change the rules and notify every participant.

Well if this is correct, then it is against the site rules (thus also implicitly against the league rules), even if whoever wrote the league rules up forgot to mention it.

Dumbluck626

If they forgot to mention it, that's their problem. Not the players. Don't try to put the result of their actions, or lack of actions, onto us.

Dumbluck626

And believe me, if they do take trophies away, this will turn into a class action suit faster than a bullet game. $50,000 is the least they would have to worry about.
