Tonight's USUAL SUSPECTS Tournament was cancelled by chess.com as it overlapped a scheduled site shutdown. We subbed in a G10/5 tourney at the last second and it was won by FrankW77. Congrats Frank! Report will be in Announcements tomorrow.

Frank Foils Field in Fast Suspectsss

Tijuanaboomboom | 5 févr. 2023
FrankW77 booked the bunch of Suspectsss last night in the Chess.com abbreviated swiss tournament with G10/5 time controls. Frank's gold medal 2/3 mark surpassed the 1.5/3 records of Tijuanaboomboom and Mathchew who took silver and bronze medals. The tournament was cancelled by the website sometime before 5 pm PST without explanation. Several attempts were made to recreate it, but an error message kept appearing indicating that the proposed event overlapped a scheduled shutdown, presumably o...
Fritz Mines Double Nickels Gold

Fritz Mines Double Nickels Gold

Tijuanaboomboom | 2 févr. 2023
BY SHAN LEE Top seed FritzJ (3/3) won gold in Wednesday's Double Nickels XI swiss. FrankW77 (2/3) won silver and Mr. Pithers (1/3) won bronze through tiebreaks. Fritz faced Pithers in round 1 with the Scandinavian Variation of Alekhine's Defense. The game was even until move 12 when Pithers blundered and Fritz picked up a pawn. After simplifying to a bishop vs bishop endgame, a pawn up, Fritz won handily. Frank played a London against bulletheadbilly in the first round and the game was eve...

TJ & the Count Go Unbeaten

TJ & the Count Go Unbeaten

Tijuanaboomboom | 1 févr. 2023
Tijuanaboomboom was unbeaten in last night's Slow Mow X swiss, grabbing the gold on tiebreaks over silver medalist CounterAttack after both paladins posted 2.5/4 marks. Third place went to Sacballer23 with a 1/3 score. Culjakben rounded out the four player field but dropped out after the second round. In the first round TJ had the black pieces and countered Culjakben's English with a KID in a game that was mostly even until a blunder left TJ with mate in 2. On board 2, the Count took a soli...

BY SHAN LEE Top seed shanlee132 got first in this week's Double Nickels tournament, with a score of 3/3, besting 2nd place Bulletheadbilly with 2/3 and 3rd place culjakben with 1.5/3.  Shan played against BHB's d4 with a Pirc Maroczy in round 1, overlooking a couple of early mistakes. EricArabian Pockets Double Nickels Gold

EricArabian Pockets Double Nickels Gold

Tijuanaboomboom | 20 janv. 2023
BY SHAN LEE WedDouble Nickels IX’s champion was EricArabian (3/3) while top seed Artwork21 got second on tiebreaks over Tijuanaboomboom, both at 2/3.   Art opened round 1 against counter_attack123 with e4 and the  Count countered with the classical variation of the CaroKann. The game was unremarkable until Art pushed to c4 followed by an inaccurate king move, evening the game again. Count blundered a pawn and then a knight and Art was up a rook going into the endgame, ultimately winning ...
