Nigel Short.jpgThe 98th British Championships will take place in Sheffield from 25 July - 6 August.

This year's competition has attracted many of the top British players, including reigning champion Mickey Adams, former world title challenger Nigel Short (pictured), young talent and 2009 winner David Howell, and 2011 Commonwealth Champion Gawain Jones.

Among the women entrants, Jovanka Houska is hot favourite to take the title for the fourth year in succession.

The format is an 11 round Swiss with over 80 players taking part.
