Aleksey Sarana Wins Jan. 12 Titled Tuesday
GM Aleksey Sarana won the January 12 Titled Tuesday tournament. The Russian grandmaster edged out GM Aleksandar Indjic on tiebreak after both finished on 10/11.
This week's Titled Tuesday tournament had a total of 773 participants. It was an 11-round Swiss with a 3+1 time control.

Sarana emerged at the top after round eight when he was on 7.5/8 together with GM Sergei Zhigalko, who outplayed his opponent completely as White with a Qxd4 Sicilian, one of his specialties. However, Sarana managed to escape and take the sole lead:
At this point, Sarana was in the lead with 8.5, and six grandmasters were close behind with eight points. GM Hikaru Nakamura, who had the highest tiebreak, was Sarana's next opponent but lost as well:

Sarana won $750 for first place, Indjic $400 for second, Andreikin $150 for third, and Hansen $100 for fourth. The $100 prize for the best female player went to GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (@ChessQueen), who scored 8/11.
