The Chess.com Clubs League is a global online league open to chess clubs around the world. It seeks to provide international competition for clubs and their members.

Eligibility

The Chess.com Clubs League is open to Chess.com/clubs representing chess clubs around the world. To participate, clubs must have both an in-person component (regular meetings) and a Chess.com/club presence. Clubs that don't yet have a Chess.com/club can freely create one.

Accepted clubs may be asked to change their club names and descriptions to most clearly reflect the club they represent and to inform members of their participation in the league.

If interested, please apply here (application deadline Monday, May 11):

Format

Initially, the Chess.com Clubs League will offer two separate formats for club: rapid chess and daily chess. Each format will have separate divisions, matches, and champions.

Clubs will be divided into two divisions based on whether the club may be considered of regional or local scale.

League Management

Chess.com will provide a public rules document prior to the season's start and will solicit feedback from participating admins.

The league will be lead by an administrator appointed by Chess.com who will hold the authority to act as needed within the framework of the rules. The league will also have a five-member board of directors who will be empowered to advise the league, to make rulings on any disputes, and to make updates to the rules as needed to address any identified omissions or inconsistencies.

Rules

  • Pairings will be issued weekly by the league.
  • Admins will be responsible for scheduling matches on the server and for reporting match results.
  • Players may only compete for one club in a season.
  • Clubs must have one designated admin that represents the team in league discussions.

Chess.com Support

  • Clubs will receive affiliate status.
  • Chess.com will create personalized registration pages to facilitate sign-up.
  • Chess.com will provide streaming assets for club streamers and promotion for league streams.
  • Chess.com will provide premium memberships as prizes for the best-performing individuals on the best-performing clubs.
  • Chess.com will provide graphical assets to clubs and content creators associated with clubs.
  • Chess.com will provide fair-play review for the league.

Chess.com is accepting applications for the position of league administrator, a part-time position with the potential to grow with the league. If you are interested in helping us launch our first season and coordinating a global competitive league, apply now!
