After blundering in the previous round, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov hit back in round seven at Dortmund.

He defeated Peter Leko in fine style to move up the leaderboard once more to within half a point of the leader Ponomariov.

Ponomariov held Kramnik to a draw with the black pieces, and Quang Liem never looked in trouble against Naiditsch.
