Gelfand Wins In Leon

Boris Gelfand won the 23rd annual Leon Magistral Rapid by beating Lev Aronian in the final after a blitz tie-break.

Gelfand (pictured) had overcome Franciso Vallejo in the semi-final, while Aronian had beaten Dominguez in the other semi-final.

Lev Aronian had taken the lead in the third rapid game of the final match, but Gelfand equalised to take it to tie-breaks, and then proceeded to win both blitz games.
