In the early stages of the COVID pandemic, Chess.com launched the first season of our official Chess.com Clubs League, an online competition league for interested clubs all around the world. In season one, 116 clubs competed from all over the world. Clubs included such famous and diverse entities such as the Marshall Chess Club, Mechanics Institute Chess Club, Kyiv Chess Club, Wasa SK, Saint Petersburg Chess Club, African Chess Lounge, and more. 38 different countries were represented, and 34 grandmasters competed including GM Pavel Eljanov (GROP Chess Club), GM Pia Cramling (Wasa SK), GM Nihal Sarin (BursaBBSatranc), and GM Alexander Shabalov (Nashville Chess Center).

At the end of season one, Kyiv Chess Club from Ukraine triumphed in Division A with a perfect 8/8 score in the season while Chess Club Zebra won Divison B with the same perfect score.

An exciting and stacked final match won Kyiv the first Clubs League title.

In light of the success of the first season, we are excited to announce season two of the official Chess.com Clubs League. In season two, we are continuing everything that made season one great including Chess.com premium prizes for the top performers, and we are making several significant improvements to the structure of the league in response to feedback from league participants.

  • The league will now use a combined rapid + blitz format.
  • We will be adding a playoff system in which the top 16 teams will compete in a traditional knockout battle.
  • Approved clubs will receive "official" status on Chess.com as part of the approval process
