Edgard Colle
Bio
Edgard Colle was a Belgian chess master who introduced the opening now known as the Colle System. It’s characterized by the moves 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3, followed by moves like Bd3, 0-0, and Nbd2, intending e4 at some point. However, Colle was also a strong player. For instance, among his tournament victories is Amsterdam 1926, which he won ahead of Savielly Tartakower and future world champion Max Euwe. He died at the age of 34 after his fourth surgery for a gastric ulcer.
