GM Lawrence Kaufman
Bio
Larry Kaufman is an American grandmaster and chess computer expert. He won the American Open in 1966 at the age of just 19 and was invited to his first of four U.S. Championships in 1972 (the others in 2002, 2003, and 2008). Kaufman became an international master in 1980 and earned his GM title in 2008 by winning the World Senior Chess Championship in Bad Zwischenahn, Germany.
With a degree from MIT, Kaufman has been at the forefront of computer chess, helping build a chess-playing computer in his years at the school. Much later, he was a top member of the Rybka team in the middle of the 2000s decade before moving to the KomodoChess team.
Kaufman is also a shogi, go, and xiangqi player. His son Raymond is a chess IM.
