This is the official 2019 Chess.com Daily Chess Championship. Participants will play 22 games at one time (one as Black, one as White per opponent) at the time control of one day per move in 12-player sections. Please anticipate the challenging schedule; the timeout rate in 2018 was high due to the demanding schedule. Only the section winner(s) advance.
This tournament is expected to complete late in 2019.
Opening databases and opening books are permitted in Daily Chess, but the use of engines and tablebases is never permitted. All section winners will be subjected to fair-play analysis.
Post your most interesting games in the comments or tweet them with the #dailychess, and we'll publicize the best ones! Selected games win !

Round Two Underway!
Round two of the Daily Chess Championships is underway! Your games have started. Please make your opening move as soon as possible to avoid any forfeitures
Round 2 Begins Soon!
With only 48 games of over 127,000(!) remaining in round one, we expect round two to begin by the end of February. Those who qualified for the next round should be ready and keep an eye out for the email notification that will be sent when round two starts. If you have not yet, we also recommend turning on notifications for your daily chess games on mobile or email at https://www.chess.com/settings/notifications.
We have reviewed tournament leaders and closed over 50 accounts for violating our fair play policies (https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444879-fair-play-on-chess-com-what-you-need-to-know). This is a notably small percentage of the over 11,000 participants, and we would like to extend a thank you to all of you for your integrity. We will continue to review players at all stages. Thank you all for playing, and for those that did not qualify to the next round, we hope you have enjoyed your games in this year's championship
Tournament Scores
Hi everyone, we are aware that some scores aren't correct. This is because of the large number of games (thousands) that timed out at virtually the same time. We are working on fixing this
Fair Play Concerns
Hello everyone, I've received a number of concerns expressed regarding fair play, and I'd like to remind everyone that...
- Public accusations are not allowed on site.
- To report users privately, you simply need to use the report button on their profile here.
Good luck in your games!
2019 Daily Chess Championship Starts Tomorrow!
Hello daily chess players Thanks for signing up for the 2019 Daily Chess Championship.
Games start tomorrow (January 1st) at 12 a.m. Pacific Time. That is 8 a.m. UTC. It may take some time for the server to start all 100,000+ games so don't be worried if your games take a few hours to start.
Once your games are underway, you have 24 hours to move. If you don't move in time, you will forfeit the game. It might be a good idea to plan a set time each day to check your games and make your moves. If you are concerned that the tournament will be too demanding for your schedule, this is your last chance to withdraw before we start.
Thanks again to all who signed up, and we look forward to a fun tournament with lots of exciting chess!
