Announcements

It's Done!

JollyPlayer | Nov 17, 2009, 9:27 PM

meiklejohn is the winner of the Accelerated Dragon tourney.  That should give this 13 rising star some confidence.   Congrats John.  John, besides being 13 and playing chess well is star student too.

Close - Very Close

JollyPlayer | Nov 12, 2009, 3:20 PM

Meiklejohn has take the lead temporarily. But Thalaria and MissyUK32 each have a game (both well underway).  It is possible for a three way tie with 2/4 wins.  It might come down to tie breakers.

Or it is possible to have co-champions.  The next few days will be decisive.

3 games to Go and All Tied

JollyPlayer | Nov 10, 2009, 3:24 PM

The three players in the last round all have one win, and one tie breaker. mieklejohn has a slight advantage as he has finished one game and thelaria and missyUK32 have split two games.

All the remaining games are well under way.  We should have a champion soon!

First win in the Finals!

JollyPlayer | Nov 5, 2009, 10:54 AM

Missy32uk strikes first!  She got the first win of 4 final games.

That puts her in the driver's seat for now.  But I am sure Thalaria and MiekleJohn will have their say yet!

Stay tuned and check out the next tournament, the Ruy Lopez Marshall Attack at: http://www.chess.com/tournament/ruy-lopez---marshall-attack for those rated 850 to 1300!

I Love you people.

JollyPlayer | Nov 4, 2009, 1:04 PM

The first round ends and EVERY game in the second round already has significant moves made.  I did error in my previous announcement.  MiekleJohn is only 13!  Well done young man.

I love the fact you ladies and gents are my friends, but play chess the way it should be played.  Make your moves, compete to win, but always do things with class.  Thanks to all.

Round 1 Finished!

JollyPlayer | Nov 3, 2009, 6:11 PM

Well, in the Accelerated Dragon tournament, round 1 is complete.  Congrats to Mieklejohn, Thalaria, and Missy32UK.  They all advanced to the final round.  Now, we can see stereotypes broken here.   MJ is a young man (I think 14), and Thalaria and Missy are both women (and as I recall, Missy is pregnant!).

A dragon trophy, points and bragging rights (no one here would brag, right? Wink )

They must play 4 more games.  Two with each opponent, one from the black side and one from the white.

Thanks to everyone.  I have mentioned this before, the very first official Chess.com tournament is not yet finished.   Yet our tournaments clip right along with time zones across the world.  Thanks, cheers, well done, or whatever is said in your area of the world.

feralflower just missed the final three.  No matter what the outcome is of the last two games, the three above will move on to the final round.

Each of the finalists will have 6 games, two with each finalist, one from the black side and one from the white side.

The final round should get started this week.  Since the Modern Benoni is completed and this one is coming to a finish, the next one (or maybe two for different levels of players) will be in the plans.

If you have input, please drop me a note.

3 Games to Go!

JollyPlayer | Oct 27, 2009, 7:34 PM

Only three games to go in the first round, and 4 players are really battling it out for the 3 spots to go on.  It is very close.   Remember, the three finalists start with new records and begin another round to see who wins.

It will most likely come down to the last game!

WOW - Moving Along Very Well

JollyPlayer | Oct 19, 2009, 7:52 AM

The first round is almost complete.  This has been a great group, win or lose.  Everyone has played their games at a nice pace.  The top 4 players could win the first round or be eliminated -- it is that close.

BabsonChick and myself are going to have our own pity party together Cry.   Oh well, we both will do better next time.  Since I know everyone in the tournament (I have played one or more - some a LOT more - that one game with) it has been fun watching the battles emerge.

It is coming down to the wire to see which three players move on to the final round.  It is close, very close.  Play well.

Moving Along ...

JollyPlayer | Oct 17, 2009, 3:15 AM

Well, games are moving at a very nice pace.  BabsonChick entered because I asked her to, and this was her first tournament.  My first tournament was worse.  I hope BabsonChick you will join us again and not let this discourage you and you learned something about the Accelerated Dragon.

While winning a tournament is great fun (I have won one) it is the LEARNING that counts the most.   Keep playing and playing well.  Nothing better than seeing my friends do friendly battle.
